chains/cables work ok with my setup?

I drive a e90 335i with sport package

I'm going to be driving from Seattle to Cali and I am currently using a set of winter tires (Sport Edition A7 /w blizzak lm25, 225/45/17). If i'm going through the passes, will i be ok with my setup? and if not, is it possible to get cables for my winter tires? I been reading here and it seems like cables are the way to go, but not sure if i can even fit them since i don't seem to have much clearance. Or is having snow tires and cables on top a little too much?

Btw, it snowed several inches in Seattle and the 335i rwd with snow tires was awesome in the snow! I was a little sketchy about rwd in the snow, as this was my first bmw and the 335i has a lot of torque. But I am very impressed now that i've driven it myself. Pressing the dtc button once definitely helps the vehicle to move (i didn't use it much, just to test it out).

IIRC there are some situations where 2WD cars require chains in addition to snow tires (CHP)

scc makes a super low profile set of chains that fit. its the Super Z6 SZ 133

California does have chain requirements at times. The only cars allowed to pass without chains are cars that are 4WD/AWD with minimum M/S rated tires. All other vehicles must have chains. They do have a rare R3 control that requires all vehicles to chain up regardless of the driveline - at that point you shouldn't be on the road. Any cable chain will work with your car.

thanks for the info! Looking around to find those chains and it's a pain, ugh. Sold out in a lot of areas. Has anyone used these chains on their tires before?

I have a pair in my trunk, but haven't pulled them out yet. Check amazon, that's where I found mine.

Just used my chains (actually cables) for the second time this year (225/45 r17 tire). I still slip going up a steep hill; wish I had a xi AWD.
