Good Price for Snow Tires
Im looking on tirerack and they've pre selected tires for me based on my make and model.
It comes to 848.00 for my car. Does that sound about right? |

Get the Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25, they're on closeout for $108 per tire.

Yeah, they should fit since they're the same specs as the OEM tires. |

Seriously? Over 4 thousand posts? Were you discussing nail polish or something?

So basically all I need to buy is the tire then right? I dont need to purchase another set of metal rims, I can just use my same ones and the dealership will know how to take them apart and put them back together?

What I would suggest is to go to your trusty local tire dealer, ask for these tires (Blizzak LM-25) and have them mounted and balanced there. It should be much cheaper than doing it at the dealer.

Steelies? Were they black in color? You can get those too, it's up to you on how much you want to spend. Personally, I'd store your summer rims and get the black steelies for the winter months.

I tried looking through the tirerack website but couldn't find anything on steelies...usually stores would charge you an extra $400/$450 (on top of the tire prices) to get the steelies.

Id just use the stockers as my winter wheels and then buy some new summer wheels and tires at a later time. Depending on what kind of wheels you have right now of course. And seriously, how did you manage 4000 posts? where were they all at?

You don't need those.. your rims should be fine for the winter and you don't mind driving them through the snow anyway, do you? I would expect most, if not all, tire dealers to carry the Blizzaks so you should have no problem with that.

I HAVE TO DISAGREE WITH THE DIRECTION OF THIS THREAD.
You want your snow tires on their own wheels. Mounting and dismounting tires onto and off of wheels is a fool's errand, expensive and there is a high risk of damage. You want your summer tires on their own wheels, probably the original equipment wheels. You want your snows on a set of cheap wheels. Call the tirerack on the phone. They are good people and they will work with you. There is a tradeoff between snow performance and dry road performance -- where do you want to be on this scale? How important is it to you to have runflats? The best snows are not runflats, which is not to say that that there are not good runflat snows. Call them. |

^ what he said.
The LM-25 are not run flats. For a person not wanting / knowing how to change a tire (well there isn't one to begin with) - maybe having them isn't such a good idea on a car with no spare. Especially in the winter. I would stick with the BMW recommended Blizzak LM-22 RFT's - they are OEM for reason. I agree having a dedicated set of rims make alot of sense, especially in the long run since it's a new car. Since it seems price isn't the issue - rather safety and convenience. |
