Inspect your car good at the dealership

A few of you may remember I had my car in the shop about 3 weeks ago getting tires put on and a few other things. They ended up gouging one of my 668 wheels pretty bad and it had to be repaired. Today I was cleaning my car and noticed the passenger side door sill was severely gouged up. Sent this picture to my SA who called me back saying it was definitely not by them. The ONLY place my car has ever been was to this dealership. I'm pissed and now have to figure out how to repair this.

Guess I'm going to have to make videos before each visit.

Thoroughly inspect your car post Dealership visit !

And this is why I never go to the dealer. If I do, I wash the car before I take it to them and take pictures.

That is NUTS! I know someone will chime in and say how do you know it wasn't there before. If you detail your car like us, you definitely would have noticed that before. With respect to the dealer, what douches. That was a part of the joy ride. Lets wear steal studded shoes and shred the shit out of the rocker panel.
Who the hell would know to take pictures of the passenger side door jam?

I make sure I announce to the service manager that I am a DICK and I will not tolerate any damage to my new car. I do a walk around with them and always photograph everything, but I wouldn't have taken a picture of that area. Sorry you have to deal with that.

Exactly. I detail the car interior at least once per month. I always clean the M550 logos because they light up........and yea, I sure as shit would have seen that prior. I did mention maybe it was done by a passenger who was driving in my car, but he said they never have passengers during test drives. Yet magically my passenger seat was moved way up from where I had set it. It's not worth getting into a pissing contest with these assholes because I know I cant win. But it is BULLSHIT.

All I know is you would have to be flipping blind not to see that. I would be sick (actually I do feel sick for you) and that makes me not want to take my car to the dealer ever. I feel like I'm trapped because of the extended warranty and I have to take it to them to get service logged.

In reality, it's probably an easy repair to get it sanded and painted since its plastic, but for me its about Integrity. I know for certain I sure as shit didnt do it and the only place my car has been is to this dealership.

Per my SA " Our technicians are trained to tell us when they damage a customer car, which is why they told me they put a 4" gouge in your wheel the last time it was serviced"

I wonder who paid for it though ? Hmm.....

but who steps on that when you go in and out of a car in the first place? its not a suv....

additionally, that cant be done by one foot, so then who would step on the same place so closely to each other like a model on a runway?

makes no sense... was someone transporting cement bricks?

I have a 5 year old and he steps all over the bottom of the door when he gets in and there is nothing like that damage on "his" door. Just show prints that wipe right off.

To me it looks like something heavy and with a sharp edged bottom was dragged over it. Like a toolbox. It's very jagged and seems like it skipped over the plastic surface digging into places. Its ridiculous, but should be fairly easy to repair.

If you look closely at the photo there are slight scratches below in the plastic also. I think something heavy/sharp was pulled into the passenger side floorboard area.

It had to be something like that. But why the hell would they have had to pull a tool box into the car? Did they have to remove the seat for some reason?

I was joking about the wheel...and I shouldn't. It's really no joke. It looks like they rested the f'd up wheel on the rocker. It makes no sense...And I agree with your statement.

And it even looks like the rubber seal got poked around.

I have shitty luck at dealerships. Back in the 1990's I had a brand new 1993 Z28 and had it looked at for suspension rattle. The moron who put it up on a lift forgot to pull his roll away so it cleared my car coming down. The entire passenger side door had a massive gash from top to bottom that ripped all the trim off as well.

HerkHealer so sorry this happened to you. Sucks.

That nonsense comment your SA made to you about the wheel damage in and of itself is unacceptable. BMW requires all dealers to purchase leverless/touch less tire mounting machines. Such as the Hunter TC37. There's no good reason, other than the dealer having idiots working for them, that could cause your wheel to be gouged. The fact you accepted a wheel repair shows how reasonable you are. I would have made them eat a wheel replacement.

Now, back to your issue with the door sill. Was the damaged wheel on the passenger side? I ask because it sure seems suspect and that sill damage is fairly severe. Even if a tech had studded boots, he'd have to get in and out of your car dozens of times to do that damage. So, I think the damage was caused by another issue.

How did they repair your gouged wheel? Dealers don't do their own wheel repairs. They call 3rd parties to do this for them. So while your SA is singing the praises of his (idiot) tech for admitting he gouged your wheel, it was very likely caused by a 3rd party who had your car to do the wheel repair. How in the world could he commit to what they may have done?

One big mess, I know. Hope you can pressure them to own up to repairing your car. Stand your ground and don't take no for an answer!

Good luck

Hey Claykin, yes the bent wheel was pass front. My SA tells me they have wheel repair techs "In House" which I know is BS. I even know the company they use to straighten and repair wheels. Every dealer in the area uses them. They are VERY good though, so I'm not concerned with that. As for the plastic all ripped up, i really dont have any idea how it happened. To me, it looks like something ragged was rested there and got moved around to create all the damage, or something was dragged from the outside to inside my car. Either way, I have no proof and the fact my SA immediately called and said there was "NO WAY" they could have done it leaves me high and dry. I dont have any prior pics or videos to dispute it, but i guarantee you I will take pics and/or vids before my car heads to another dealership. You would think cars as expensive as ours would be handled better, but they really only care about the $$.

That's not right, is it easy for you to take them to court ( yourself, friends or family are lawyers) or a hassle? I'm sick and tired of incompetent workers, advisors, etc...

If I were in your shoes, I'd ask for the service manager. Make your case to him. Starting with them damaging your wheel. It's a chain of events and if they didn't damage your wheel.....If the service manager proves to be useless, find the general manager of the dealer. Sometimes all it takes is an online review to motivate them. And/or file a complaint with BMWNA.

I sent an email to him once the wheel damage happened. Not for the damage, but because i wasnt told about it until monday morning, and it happened on saturday. I may email him again askimg for a new SA. Probably mention his SA lied to me about who does the repair also.

Thx for advice

Good luck. There's no need for you to be the nice guy in this situation. They clearly did not handle your situation correctly. Starting with the tire tech.
