How are you removing the spring perch?

Looking to tackle a KW HAS install in the home garage here at some point and wondering how you DIY'ers are removing the spring perch from the front shocks. I've seen a few videos where shops are using a press, and also saw one where somebody tapped it loose with a mallet. What's worked best for you? Are they a pain to get off? Any tricks? TIS shock replacement procedure doesn't mention a method, looks like it might come pre-installed with the shock.

Cheers

Using a mallet works. Just tap it on each side.

Rubber mallet is do-able, just be careful on the alignment of the perch and super careful since your shock is aluminum body.

the damper when unloaded has enough slack to loosen the perch, but you may have trouble seating the top nut again...When I put in camber plates, the shop used a spring compressor, which mostly just made it easier to work on as everything is stationary and held upright.
