Exhaust sound before break-in

Hey all,

I just got my M4 coupe a week ago and have just under 100miles on it. I was testing out the sound difference with the exhaust button and noticed no difference in either setting.

I spoke to my local BMW service dept and they said they will activate the exhaust button after the run in service. I have been looking around in the break in forums and no one mentions any change to the exhaust sound after break in.

Can anyone confirm what the tech at BMW is saying is true?

TIA

I've never heard of dealers activating the exhaust after break in.

However, unless you put your engine on Sports Plus, there's not that big of a difference with the exhaust valves open/closed.

The only function of the button is to keep the exhaust valves closed. Putting the engine mode into Sport or Sport + opens them.

Holy fuck, the things some of these dealerships say. Not even anywhere close to being remotely true. They also don't unlock any additional power during the break-in service either.

As another poster said, there isn't a whole lot of difference between the different modes. You can hear a slightly deeper exhaust sound if you are in Sport/Sport+ and toggle the exhaust button on or off but it isn't anything drastic.

There is no difference on/off in comfort mode. In the other modes, it turns on ASD and opens up the valves somewhat.
