G8x brakes
Today I was taking my F83 for a regular, scheduled service and was talking to the owner of a 2021 G82.
He was telling the brakes in his car started with a squealing noise which BMW has not been able to resolve. His dealer (a BMW dealer @ West Palm Beach & Jupiter) told him that it was normal and didn't do much about it, reason for which he took to another. He told me that a class action suit was coming and that the problem was widespread. This is the 1st time I've heard of this. Never read a review where this was brought up either. Anybody has had this problem? Anyone has heard of the lawsuit coming against BMW? :

Brakes in general may squeal. BMW specifically warns its customers -- especially those with M sport packages and M cars -- that high performance brakes may squeal. Anyone can try filing a class action lawsuit if they want. Good luck to them.

A class action lawsuit for squealing brakes?
That's air quotes for "Class Action" $100,000 dollar lawsuit for 100,000 claimants |

Yup. And the 100,000 claimants have to split $10,000 because the lawyers get $90,000.

That's sign of a high performance brake pads, they better be squealing.
You can always replace them with a less metallic pads but then you better drive slow

Never read a negative review on BMW steel brakes on M cars. Only if you track them then the CCB are the go. Oh except the normal complaints about break dust.

Christ. Why is this so hard to understand? The brakes need using and quite hard on the regular. Any performance brakes that spend the majority of their life under light application, will squeal. Nature of the beast.
A law suit due to squealing brakes? This guy is what is known as a 'screamer' in the car world. |

People act like their lives are reality shows. "Yeah man I'm gonna burn these bitches at the stake in a court of LAW." Over some brake noise

Same. Totally normal. These higher end brakes squeal and, as others have said, you have to find some open road where you can give them a hard break-in treatment to stop them from squealing.
Anyone ever been to a race track? If not, go sometime and listen very carefully on corners. |

Never mentioned in any review (short or long term that I've read on the G8x's. Curiosity if this a legit complain followed, therefore, the post.

I actually have to adjust the way I drive when hopping in most of my fun cars over the years (such as my G80), if I want to avoid the squeal. I’m usually VERY easy on brakes - not uncommon for me to have gotten 60k miles out of brakes on some rather heavy SUVs like my manual 2nd gen X-Terra. I see red lights up ahead, back off early etc.
In the G80, that kind of driving with light pedal pressures brings the expected squeal. The better half usually forgets, and asks something like “what’s wrong with your driving today?!” One of many reasons why track cars aren’t always the best street cars, or at least have major trade-offs. Even though we all love them! Squealing brakes. Uncomfortable stiff suspension. Low gas mileage. The list of things that can be expected, is long. |

The brakes on the G8X squeak, far more than the standard brakes in all the past M cars I've had, but I believe it to be normal with this gen.

Doesn't humidity/moisture play into the squealing as well? It may be anecdotal, but I have observed that my break squeal more on wet days. Nothing new to me since I have been driving BMWs exclusively for 25+ years and this has been the same on pretty much every BMW I had. I'll take better braking performance over less noise and dust any day.

Not squeaky but real dirty. Will change the pads when I get a chance.
