22 X5 M50i - Gearing/RPMs
Disclaimer that I am not a gearhead or anywhere close to it. I recently took delivery of my 2022. I previously had a 2019 X5 5.0. I have noticed with this car that the engine seems to rev upwards when slowing down/down shifting in normal traffic driving. I can possibly take a video of it in the future, but seems very odd and jumpy in certain transitions. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks

The car is attempting to rev match. If interested in why, there is so much information about it. Most of the info refers to manual trannies, but a lot of it still applies here. Here's the first hit that came up: https://www.motorbiscuit.com/what-is...lly-necessary/

Heck, even my Ford F-150 3.5 eco boost with the 10 speed trans down shifts and rev matches in sport mode. If you don't like the way that feels, put it in comfort mode. An M50i in comfort mode will still smoke anything you're liable to get up against at the red light

Yes, mine does this as well.
When it downshifts, the car rev matches to keep the engine in a higher rev range in case you need the power to accelerate (out of a turn for example). |
