225/40/18's on staggered wheels

looking for some snows would like to just keep my stock 189's. Can I safely put a 225 on the back 8.5 inch rim? Tires are much cheaper if they are 225's all around.

thats a bit too much stretch IMO for a 225, but it can be done.

Personally, if you have staggered then you best sticking with the correct sizes. Although for snows you'd be better opting for some 16 or 17 alloys and appropriate tyres.

The optimum (if you can call it that) rim width for a 225/40R18 tyre comes out to 8", so 8.5" isn't a stretch.

You're right, you can even go 7.5" since they're winter tires. I believe the range is 7.5 to 9. 8 is probably best.

Do it. I run the same size LM25's all around on my 189's. I put some 15mm spacers in the rear and it looks money for a winter setup. Rears are slightly stretched.
