MSS Spring Update

First, I would like to apologize for keeping quiet during the whole debate on MSS front spring thread.
I have to, since I have to respect the requests from MSS and the US distributors.
I don't want to get into detail about it or discuss it.
The most important part, the update springs are here, installed and tested.
Thanks to Vic55 for being a good customer and letting me to borrow his G80 M3 Comp since my test car was sold weeks before the update arrived.

Based on the appearance as you can see in this picture, the front springs and poly seats are different.
I don't know whether the spring rate is softer or stiffer (I will update once I have answer from MSS), but from the appearance, the new spring have same length and tighter coil.
While the poly seats, the new one is 10mm shorter.

Data wise, new spring is 0.5" to 0.75" lower than the original setup.

Here is the comparison on Vic55 cars.

From today on, only new setup will be shipped and is available as of today.

Thanks Ben- so here is my short take after maybe 100 miles or so on the new springs...

I cant tell the difference; maybe just maybe a slight bit less taut and more enduring over bad roads. I did drive the car home the same way I always do to possibly jog my terrible memory and then of course have been driving locally where I always do to replicate the feel or change of the new spring. The great MSS feel continues with that 1 down compression and 1 up on standard bumps while keeping the tires/chassis planted. So the quality remains and now the adjustment is rolled in (front being lower than original but can go up vs the "hack" where it was fixed)

So the "hack" really allowed for a deep drop but also created a fixed drop whereas now I can go higher. We also measured the hack again from the day we did it to before we swapped out the springs and it settled just about 1/2 an inch so my assumption is that it will be the same here as well.

Im happy MSS rectified what they did but it was the retailer aka Ben who did the heavy lifting to remedy what others are dealing with now.

More shots:

Hack Drop with 1/2 inch settling

Understood, but are you bottomed out on the adjuster or you still have some threads left?

Im at the end of the adjuster in the front--- can only go up but it will settle too based on prior mss springs.

I think Ben left a few threads in the front but nothing material.

Im going to go with the spring rates are different. It definitely looks like the new springs, (right side) are a thinner metal stock.

Can anyone help explain the differences (pros and cons) between the MSS Adjustable Springs and KW HAS kits, other than about £300?

I'm thinking better ride quality, different range of adjustment, etc.

I don't want my car slammed but I do want to close the stock gap on my G82 Comp xDrive, while retaining some flexibility for future changes should I decide to fit 20/21 wheels and when I change my Pirellis to Michelins, when they're worn out.

I cant speak to KW on the G80's as Ive never fitted them on my cars (had two) but I have had nothing but good luck with KW in the past (over 15 sets of labeled and private labeled via Novitec).

With that being said, I went with MSS back in June of last year because KW was not even coming out until after Oct of 2021. And I was very impressed with the spring reaction and its ability to keep the car planted in the most trying of situations. Add the comfort over great roads and I was happy to just move the set from my RWD G80 to my X Drive G80. Was I happy with the front drop, no not initially until we did a modification to make it drop about 35mm while still enjoying the ride. And now all new MSS kits have the proper setup on all 4 corners with full adjustability up. In these current pictures with the new spring via MSS- the front may have 5mm more and the rear has about 10mm left in the adjuster.

I am not privy to the KW spring rates but I know that my ride is still brilliant with the MSS. Im not a vendor, and I have KW on my M8 now so its just my ownership thoughts. Is it worth the added price- I cant tell you this yet. I will be riding in a KW dropped car this weekend and hopefully can report back. Ill be fair, Ill use the same settings as mine and will also try to drive the same roads at the same speeds.

This pic is with the inverted adjuster BEFORE MSS came out with the new spring (and about 1/2 inch of settling)--- its a beautiful stance IMHO but its low for many others because of their desires, roads, conditions:

This pic is with the new spring and basically in the same place but with only 40 miles on it so no settling yet (I posted above but not with the modified pic right next to it):

Thanks for the info Vic55 I appreciate your views on the MSS and would definitely like to hear back after your weekend jaunt in the KW HAS car, as a comparison between the two

You two (Ben and Vic) are an asset to this community. Looking forward to hearing from you after a few weeks with the new setup. (Though it sounds like there won't be much more to add.) Likewise with the kw comparison, though I'd be shocked if there was any meaningful difference noted

Since I don't have access to Ben (you ever planning a trip to Miami or know anyone here?), I was leaning towards KW. Now I think I'll stick with MSS, as the kw rear drop is a little much for me (could use the 15mm extender for that...but meh).

What's the best way to explain what I want to an installer? Do I tell them the gap I want, or how far the drop should be (or how much drop is left available) based on forum info? Or both?

If you can find a trusted installer, I can preset the adjuster for you.
Or, full accommodation Summer vacation doesn't sound bad too.

Since you are in UK, why don't you call up MSS and tell them that I send you.
You'll be happy with the product since you can dial it up so it is not as slammed as KW HAS.

That's actually not a bad idea and yes, I'll certainly tell them you've referred me

I've been communicating directly with KW in the UK to find out some technical info about their kit being approved for use on the G82 xDrive and have not been overly impressed with their responses so far, so I'll give MSS a call!

Seeing that I dont have much mileage on the fronts, I can measure fender to wheel lip or whatever you like and post- the rears have been on for around 800 miles.

Let me know.
