Central Locking and Radio Inop
Hi all, this is a new to me 2009 E91. It came with one fob (non-CA) which only started the car, didn't operate central locking. I got a new fob from the dealer ($300, thank you) and it too starts the car but will not operate remote locking.
Also, the radio has zero reception. Based upon my reading here, the central locking antenna and the radio antenna are the same? They are both driven off the same module in the hatch? So, diversity antenna module needs to be replaced? Wiring? The breakers seem fine. Thanks, all. |

You pretty much answered your own question .(if it was a question)
There are quite a few threads on the diversity module here and some on Ytube. The wiring often is reported as being broken near the hatch. Try this search on Ytube "e91 diversity module" or "e90 diversity module" http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...2&d=1260829447 Last edited by ctuna; 02-10-2022 at 12:19 PM.. |

Need Last-7 Characters of your VIN to make SURE we're looking at correct wiring diagram (ISTA). If other inputs to radio work (CD, USB, Aux) and radio display lights up as it should and shows stations selected, but sound is weak or Non-existent when FM selected, that may be caused by NON-functional Aerial Diversity.
If Central Locking button on dash works to lock/unlock all doors, but NO buttons on Remote Key have any function, THAT may be caused by non-functioning Aerial Diversity. As ctuna suggests, on E91's, it is common to have wiring failure (either Power Supply or Ground) related to components (such as Aerial Diversity) which are mounted on the Tailgate. Check carefully to see if any OTHER Tailgate-mounted components, such as Tag Lights, Wiper, Reversing Lamps, Tail Lamp, Tailgate Latch Release (Interior & Exterior), Rear Window button, work. With the correct wiring diagrams, we can suggest tests you can do to identify the CAUSE of the issue. It appears to be related to the Aerial Diversity, but broken wires in the Looms at the Hinge Plane (Top of Tailgate) are more often the cause of such issues than the Module itself. George |

Thanks, all.
Glad I'm on the right diagnostic track. Probably the way to continue is the least-invasive way first, i.e., checking the wiring, per slupie's suggestion. The right side wiring boot /looks/ fine, no obvious rubbing. Is there a way to slip to wiring boot off the wires, or am I forced to cut into it? |

I have the near exact same situation (even bought a new key thinking that was it!). I've been gearing up to dig into this too, the got as far as pulling the cover off, but chickened out at that point. I have a bad feeling this is going to be outside of my skillset, but am going to try and hope I trip across a busted wire that's easy to fix!!
