recommended tire pressure (17"-winter)

Just mounted my winter wheel setup which is BMW style 285 rims with Dunlop WinterSport 3D 225/45/17 tires non-RFT and the first think i noticed was how soft and comfortable the ride was, switching from 18" RFT to 17" non-RFT make a huge difference!

Anyway, the problem is that i don't know what tire pressure to use for this setup, any ideas?

just my two cents, but most tires have a max inflate pressure pinted on them, maybe around 50psi, I usually fill mine to around 30-32. I am not running Dunlop tires, but that should be a good point of reference.

I will just look at the door frame sticker and pick the closest match based on expected payload weight, and add 2 pounds if you inflat them indoor or in a warm day to compensate for pressure loss due to cold weather.

I have 40 all around in my 225/45/17 winter tires.

I thinks it's better to have a little to much than too little.

on my door sticker it says: 36 for front and 44 for rear...but isn't it too much? shouldn't it be more inflated in the front than the rear? i'm really concerned about this....

Don't use the ones for maximum loading if you don't drive the car fully loaded with passenger and luggage all the time, choose the one that reflects everyday driving. Use the maximum one only if you are going on a long trip with the car pack full of people and luggage and use it only for the trip.

The recommended tire pressures on the sticker are developed by the manufactuer to optimize handling with bias towards understeering (for safety reasons - for the average driver understeering is easier to correct than oversteering). If you alter it you will affeect the car's oversteer/understeer characteristics which may not be desireable.

what i read on the sticker was for normal driving not fully loaded...
still don't know what to do...i don't understand why the big difference between front and rear

Go read the manual. There are guidelines of filling pressures for 16-19" tires in the manual, for both normal and full load.

36psi all the way around for my 17" blizzak lm-25's. That is what I have run the past two winters and it has worked well.

In my experience, the fronts are always specified lower than the rear. I just give them about 2psi less than the rear.
