KW HAS vs AST springs

Does the KW HAS kit ride significantly better then the non adjustable AST springs?

Is the rear close to flush with 15mm spacers?

Is the AST spring cheap or just reasonably priced?

I see great reviews of both but never comparing the two.

I'm awaiting a BSM G80. Not sure if you would even notice a slightly lower (KW HAS) drop for a NY daily driven vehicle.

I will not be adjusting the height numerous times.

I'm hoping the KW HAS rides significantly better to justify the price…

But then again I could spend that money on plenty of other parts.

Both will close up that ugly gap up front. But its not really a valid comparison of a fixed drop spring vs height adjustable drop (HAS).

HAS (KW) will allow you to adjust to your exhaust desired height, at a slightly higher cost as compared to a spring with a fixed drop (AST). It simply depends on your level of OCD and what your budget allows.

If the budget allows it, get the KW HAS. Its a better option considering that it will enable you to adjust the height vs. the fixed AST

I cant comment on the ride of the AST, but the KW rides just like stock, just a tad stiffer. It also give you the flexiblity to adjust it. I just had a set installed on my G80 with 15mmF/12mmR spacers.

No warnings. But that says drivetrain. Do you have a check engine light on?

Is the ast lower then the kw all the way down? From a performance/handling standpoint is there a different between adjustable vs fixed springs?

This is not related to your drop… are you piggybacked? Aka running JB4 or racechip? Pull codes if possible.

Hey guys. I am in the process of buying my first BMW. I have been a Mercedes guy for years. I am planning on buying a G80 xdrive. I see many posts on the aftermarket springs and have only one question.

Which spring will retain the closest to the ride quality on the stock spring. Understand I know the primary and secondary purposes for aftermarket springs. I also understand progressive spring constants and know thst if the balance is a certain ratio, you can get very close to the same ride quality as stock while changing the ride height. Thank you for any guidance you may offer. I do have legitimate reasons for this setup.

Only way to know is if you can find the spring rates for both.

The first time I saw the G80 on the forum with AST springs I said to myself that is the exact stance/height that I want. So for me the adjustable height makes no sense because I would be asking them to set it up to the exact height of the AST’s.
As for ride quality, they ride just like stock. I am super happy with them. If there is any chance that you will want to adjust them after initially setting them to your desired ride height then obviously the KW’s make more sense.
My 2 cents.

They’re about the same ride height when the kw is bottomed out, ast has the lead. AST spring rates are stiffer. A few complaints about bouncing but two of the people I messaged came from coilover cars. Apples to oranges.

I’m in the same boat as you; I’ve been reading nonstop for the last 2 weeks trying to decide. I’m leaning toward the eibach front springs since it’s the rear that usually creates the bounce feeling and the rear sits pretty nice. Install is less than an hour, no spring compressor or removing the strut. I do love the low life so ast is attractive at the price point, but I think it’ll leave me wanting more. Kw will get me lower and cushier while retaining the same oem rake. But if I get the kw they’re a hassle to install. I then I thought might as well as get the Bmw kw, same headache for a few bucks more but it comes with a tool for perfect install and if I have a strut problem down the road there’s a chance Bmw may warranty it. Fkin circles trying to decide.

I’m going to end up with a 3-6k coilover at the end of the day like every other car.

lowering spring is always an cheaper option that will hurt the OE strut. except good looking , it does nothing to the car.
