$50,000 Ultimate Driving Machine and the...cupholders don't work???
Love my car, got it a month ago. Anyone else have problems with the cup-holders in the dash going in and never coming out again. Mine is stuck and I can't get it out.
Also, is it normal to have to pull the door handle twice to open the door? Is this a safety mechanism or a defect? Another thing while I'm at it....there is a cupholder in the middle console which is heated and cooled. Am I dumb or is the only way to use it is to leave to door open which is really annoying. Every time you brake it tries to shut. Thanks guys!

That is not standard BMW quality. The cupholder is an issue.. did spill soda or anything that would get sticky on it??
As for pulling the handle twice, the first pull is to unlock the door and the second is to actually open the door. The armrest does not need to be open in order to use this, unfortunately it is only designed for 12oz cans or very small cups. |

It appears you pay considerable attention to cup holders in your car, a glaring sign you probably shouldn't own a BMW in the first place.

As to the OP...No the cupholders should not be getting stuck...make sure they are clean and not sticky. If it persist take it in to the dealer and have them fix it for you GL

There's a career in automotive journalism waiting for you.
Its a cultural thing, Germans see no need for cup holders in their cars so they see no need to give you robust cup holders. Not a problem for me, no drinks allowed in my car |

My cupholders have worked fine for 44k miles and almost 3 years. As for the locks I hate that feature so I have it programmed to NOT lock after driving. If I want to lock the doors I can do it on my own. The other way to do it is that when you stop you can hit the unlock button by the heating and cooling vents so then you dont have to pull the handles twice. It is for safety espically with small children. If you driving at 70mph on the higway and a child/passenger in the back or on the passenger side of the car pulls the door handle the door will not open the first time they pull it so you can relock it to avoid a problem. I would turn off that stupid locking feature it really is useless IMO.

This is true and they funny thing is they will smoke 2 packs a day in the car and not drink. I really dont let anyone (except my 2 and half year old) drink in the car either but there is no way in HELL anyone is getting within 50 feet of my car with a cigarette/cigar.

You have to pull the handle twice to open the door because the first pull unlocks the door and the second opens it, you can disable the feature which auto locks the doors as you drive off and then you only have to pull the handle once to open the door.

OP, the door handle thing annoys the shit out of me but it's a safety thing I hear. The cup holders work fine in my car but maybe as someone said before soda or something spilled and made the cup holder sticky. Enjoy your car

If the double pull really bothers you, another option is the SmartTop controller. It'll do away with the double pull and make your window roll up and roll down work without you having to hold the lock or unlock button. A search should get you lots of info on it.

I thought eating, drinking, text messaging, and talking on a hand-held cell phone were illegal while driving in Germany. It's one of the things that allows them to have an Autobahn without speed limits.

bmw's were never meant to have cup holders.... seriously..... the u.s. market is a major reason why bmw's have them..

All, if not most Germans, build the car around the engine, unlike japanese auto makers which build the engine around the car.
Germans - performance 1st, handling 2nd, daily drive ability 3rd Japanese - the above in reverse order, except maybe not the handling part... |

Is there any truth to the rumor that facebook and linkedin will be integrated with iDrive in early 2k9? They should at least let you edit Word Excel and Powerpoint from the steering wheel.

Your best bet is to bring it to BMW and let them fix it for free. They shouldn't be getting stuck

Does the E92 have a heated/cooled cupholder? Not that I care, just never noticed.
