328 ticking
As it has gotten colder, my 328 ticks. The sound comes from the engine bay and happens when the car is parked. Any thoughts?

Happens after you drive it? It's the metal cooling.

It's probably just the metal cooling

Those engines are known to tick when they get hot... so I am assume what you have is something different. Does the ticking maintain the same sound regardless oh the angle you're parked at? On my e46 I had an issue which simply turned out of be the exhaust was vibrating at a certain angle.. the sound was closer to the engine as well.

I don't know exactly what the ticking is but. . .
It isn't the metal cooling. I know that. I'm pretty sure that the 328 came with 2 different types of engines. Again, not exactly sure what the 2 types are but i know that one of them sucks. My girlfriend just so happened to be lucky enough to get the one that sucks! It sounds like shit, feels weak, ticks like a motherfucker, and get frickin terrible MPG. It only has like 6k miles on it right now i believe so i'm hoping it fixes itself but have a feeling it isn't going to. This dumb car gets like 14/24mpg. My 330i = 20/31.5 My 335i = 18/30 If you figure out what the problem is with this engine let me know. TIA |

I know: my master bmw technician had my car raised and showed me. It comes from the area on the drivers side front wheel, there is a valve there that ticks continuously. He told me its harmless just ticks continuously. So while parked the tick comes from this little valve. Just got to live with it but very annoying.
