How much additional HP would you expect on the 2010 E92 replacement?

My lease runs out 4/23/10. Just about the time the E92 replacement will be coming out. Pretty happy with the performance on the N54 turbo engine. We all know that the 305 advertised HP is really 330 HP. Also the 2010 Audi S4/S5 is advertised at 333hp (remember the E46 M3?). Just wondering how much BMW usually tweaks the HP on replacement models. Obviously, VERY easy to do with a turbo, which I believe will be carried over. Would 340HP(advertised) be a reasonable expectation? If so would 360HP actual be realistic given BMWs propensity for conservative HP ratings. OR, will it just be the same engine with a higher HP rating and no increase in power? Can't believe that they will allow Audi to have an advertised HP rating advantage. BTW, the Audi s4/s5 is or will be the direct competition to the 335i coupe /sedan

You'd be lucky to see an increase to an "advertised" 310-330bhp.

Its actually an advertised 300 not 305, but I dont think you will see to much of an increase, BMW kind of just caught up recently as long as the competition doesnt go crazy I dont see much more then 325ish.

Ohhh, and why do you think the e92 is being replaced in 2010, that is way to early. The sedan just came to the US in 06 and the coupe in 07. BMW doesnt run a 5 year cycle on their cars its closer to 7 years.

I think he might have meant a LCI 92.

Yeah the new 3 series sedan is due for 2012 which means it will be fall of 2011, how can the coupe come before that when the coupe was released after the sedan?

Ahh ok well if thats the case I dont think there will be any power bump for the E92 except maybe a Performance package version which I doubt they would give more then 10hp max.

Fuel economy is becoming too important to ignore.

0% increase - best they might do is advertise it at 330 like in the 7 series, but there are no changes to that engine, they just say it makes more like what it really makes!

BMW does not care about Audi showng 333hp. The S4 is not a fair comparison to the 335i anyways. Its more money, slower, and is going to handle worse. Remember when Audi claimed the S4 was better than the M3? Its strange hhow now it compares with the 335i and still is not as good a car IMO. I bet the show 250-260 hp for the 328 and 325 hp for the 335i if I had to guess. They also might not change it at all.

Did they officially decide to use the F- nomenclature?

- Same power, maybe less, but with better efficiency and fuel economy being the more important factor.

- Use of different materials to make the car LIGHTER. This is guaranteed as the head project director of the new 3er said that the car will be lighter than the current e90's. All car companies will attempt to follow this trend. Audi as already done it a while back with the TT.

I don't know if you are refering to the B7 (v8) or the upcoming B8 (SCV6) S4. But I think the upcoming B8 S4 will be much more competitive and probably will be tuned for slighly better performane than a 335i. It sure will be more expensive. I look at the new S4 more like a car slotted in between the 335i and the M3. Better than the 335i and not as good as the M3 just as it should based on their price point.

i can imagine bmw releasing the zhp version.... they would make no changes except mtech kit and anthracite headliner...
as for performance, they would just state what the engine really makes. no need to actually modify the engine. 330hp/330ft/lbs.

genius marketing :-D

the E90 and E91 will be replaced in 2011 as a 2012 model.
the E92 and E93 will be replaced in 2012 as a 2013 model.
an LCI will come into play for the E92 and E93 probably in late 09 as a 2010. all cosmetic.

if it follows the E46, the performance package will be introduced in 2010 for the sedan and 2011 for the coupe.

BMW PRESS RELEASE: 11/24/08 1:00PM EST

Due to the lower-than-expected reliability of the n54 platform, our engineers have chosen to replace the engine rather than fix all of the current bugs for the e92 LCI model. The e92 LCI officially will drop the n54 powerplant, opting for the more robust F119-PW-100 Turbo engine.

This new engine delivers thrust in the 35,000 lb-feet of thrust and was designed specifically for the e92. Delivering almost 22% more thrust with 40% fewer parts than conventional, fourth-generation turbo platforms, this masterpiece of German engineering will propel the 335i facelift to a record-breaking Mach 1.7!

And as if this was already too good to be true, we at BMW have lightened the entire intake manifold leading to an unprecedented 8.2:1 thrust/weight ratio.

so E92 LCI will have the new Motor? I am assuming that doesn't include the new E90 LCI. Most likely, it still has N54 motor.
