Passenger airbag light goes off...with no one there

Hey guys, my passenger airbag light keeps coming on. Before it would only go off once in a great while. Now it goes off whenever someone sits there.....Or no one is there at all!!!(Ghost!!) Any ideas on what it could be?

Its at service right now, and they said that by fixing the iDrive, it went away, but just incase if it didnt......

There is a TSB for it. It is a known problem in some 3 series and 5 series cars. It was in the Roundel month or two ago.

I had the same issue in my '06 E90. Just last week. They ended up replacing the seat mat pad for the airbag. I told the SA that this looked like it going to be on TSB from what we all have been hearing. He said he had no idea that this was issue. ??. Any way warrenty or TSB it should be taken care of.

before you bring it in...

Any chance you had a bag on the seat? I had a fairly heavy laptop bag on the seat and it was enough to trigger the sensor to think it was a kid, and turn the airbag off.

Then it worked right. If I remember correctly anything below 60 lbs turns off the air bag on the passenger seat. Bouncing laptop bag or a purse will do it. My wife used to put her purse on the seat and about 25% of the time it would cause the air bag to be turned off.

No, nothing at was there. Plain empty seat.

I just got the car last night, and after he told me over the phone that by changing my iDrive, it should have corrected it.

Well as soon as i started driving, no joke no more then 15 ft., it went off. So i went right back in and told him. Thing is it wouldnt go off again when he started driving it around the whole block. Then as he got out and I drove my friend back to his car. When he got out, and I turned the car on again, boom it went off. By this time the SA already had left.

On the papers it said that the mat sensor is working properly. And no i dont weigh less then 60lbs, im 160, so , Plus its the airbag in the passenger seat.

And another thing is that when i took in my car, i had a nav disk in the dvd drive thing. But now theres no cd, should i bring this up to the SA?

Technical Service Bulletin; it tells the techs what to do, with what parts, and how much to charge BMW.

BMW has a recall on this. I believe it affected the the 06 3 series with the sports package. It came out in October.

Here are a couple of links that might help: http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com...s-5-Series-X3/
