Auto Locking when driving off

I have a 55 plate E90 320d in the UK but it doesn't have the auto locking feature when you drive off, which I would like.

Other threads suggest the option to switch this feature on and off is on the computer (NON iDrive) but only from 06 plate onwards, so I am out of luck.

My question is.... can this feature be enabled at a dealer? Or can the software be updated so the option does appear on my computer?

If so, how much would this cost me?

Thanks in advance...

Dan

Well I spoke to the dealer...

To activate the auto lock feature will cost me £155 !

Not quite sure if I'm THAT bothered...! Seems expensive just for one feature. Maybe if I get it done at the same time as it's next routine service, it might not cost me as much.....

Go to another dealer. I believe your dealer doesn't know how to do it and he is cheating you so you don't ask anymore about it.

you dealer is full of it...it should not cost you a thing. especially if your still under the service plan. i asked my dealer to turn mine on (no charge). then after finding out it would not unlock when put in park and i had to double-pull the doors to get out i had him turn it back off (again no charge).

try another dealer.....

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried another dealer...

They say it will only cost me £50 plus vat - half hours' labour - a bit of a difference to the first dealer I tried! Do they just make up the prices?!

I wonder if there are any other options that I can get changed at the same time and get my money's worth....?

Don't pay anything! Go to another dealer and tell them that feature is "broken" so they can "fix it" for you for free under the warranty.

Dan, this is what is in your handbook, this feature comes as standard on all E90's so I hope the attach helps

Thanks for the suggestion timking85, but the option to alter the function doesn't appear on my system or in my manual. I think the menu entry was only added from 06 plate onwards, looking at a few posts....

FIY, i asked my dealer (in in europe) and he said it will cost 25 euros (just for the man hours minimum price). It's a quick job.

early 06 e90's (05 julian date) do not have all the stalk functions the later models do. but it has been (should be) common practice among ALL dealers that because this option was printed in the owner's manual yet not built into the car that they would make these adjustments at no charge.

call bmwusa for help...

If you have a pre-September 2006 build, then you have to have this feature (along with others, like DRL) set by a dealer. From 09/06 onward, you can set it via the stalk or iDrive.

I know I might catch some flack for this, but look at it this way:
The way I make money is by working on cars. That means that either A) BMW has to pay me to do it, B)you have to pay me to do it, or C) I have to do it for free. I'm trying to earn a living. Pay my rent, feed myself, pay off my student loans, and hopefully have enough left over to have some fun. BMW will not pay for us to set features like this, and I don't work for free. You see it as just a half an hour of labor. I see it as I have to take the time to stop what I'm doing, get your car, pull it in, perform the half an hours worth of work, take it on a quick test drive to verify the setting change worked, pull the car into wash, fill out the paperwork, and then turn in the paperwork. Even worse than not getting payed to do all that, is the fact that I have a car that I can make money on, that I had to push to the side to do something for free.

OK, so here's an update....

Took the car to BMW this morning. The idea was that they would go and hook it up to the computer and print up a sheet with all available and changable options (according to them).

Instead, they came back to me after 20 minutes and said there was a problem. They said for some reason the computer isn't showing ANY changable options and won't allow them to alter anything at all. They weren't sure if this was how the car was intended when manufactured on that particular date or whether it is a software problem. They have now emailed their HQ (wherever that is) with my car details to try and find out.

They say if HQ think the options SHOULD be changable, they will update my ENTIRE software version on the car to include all those post 55-plate updated options on the OBC free of charge (even though my warranty has just expired) but if it isn't by design and I still want the update I would have to pay £155 for them to do it.

I won't bother though if I have to pay that much for an entire software upgrade, just for the sake of a couple of minor option changes....

No, that's not correct. For example, his doesn't have it and it's a 55 plate E90.

I totally agree with you on this One day I will own my parents business, so I know that you have to somehow make a living by charging others for a profit, it's simple business practice
