Average fuel comsumption incorrect

just noticed this problem lately...b4 it used to be 14.3 L/100km, now it's always 1.0 L/100km or 99.9 MPG...the instantaneous one is working fine and varies all the the time while i'm driving...anyone experiencing the same problem?

also i've brushed the gears several times when i shifted from 1st to 2nd rite after a cold start..i'm sure i've floored the clutch...maybe when the car is cold u just have to be super gentle and slow to shift?

Yeah, people have experienced the erroneous mpg. There have been a lot of threads about it. I'd probably disconnect and reconnect the battery to reset the computer.

Just reset it (by holding that button on the stalk to flip through mileage/mpg/speed while on the avg mpg screen).

Mine happened after not resetting it after 20k+ mi

the average MPG was never correct anyway. measure it yourself with calculations of miles/gallons

Once you manually calculate the correct fuel consumption, you can go into the hidden OBC features and change the correction factor until it displays correctly. I did this on my old E36 328i.

But gas pumps are notoriously inaccurate as well, so measuring your MPG by gas pumps and the miles on your odo may not be any improvement over the computer. The computer might actually be closer to reality.
