Is coupe really more expensive to insure?
I'm in market to get an 08 335i coupe and Geico is quoting me $400 a year compare to my current Z4 conv.
How much do you guys pay for 335i coupe? I currently pay $2600 a year but $3000 sounds bit much. And can you guys please state what insurance you guys use? Last edited by jlstyle; 11-20-2008 at 02:15 PM.. |

When I was trying to make the decision between 2 and 4 doors, I got quoted on both coupe and sedan for the '08 335i. They turned out to be the same. That was through GEICO. These cars are pretty expensive to insure IMO.

If you can get USAA they are the best. For my coupe and my wifes 07 acadia I pay $90 a month. And me and my wifes driving record are not clean haha.

Forgot to tell you that you can only get USAA if you are in the army or retired or a dependant. Sorry.

If there is a difference it's usually very minuscule. Most of the premium cover damage to someone else's property. I bet if you drive the car into someones living room the damage won't differ match based on the number of doors you have.

$2k/yr for my e92 335, my corolla and my fiancee's S40 from GEICO. $1k deductible, middle of the line damage coverage. We're both 28 FWIW.

I think the coupe is slightly more to insure based mainly on the slight price difference. When I was shopping for insurance and deciding between the 328xi sedan, 328xi coupe and the 335xi sedan and they were incrementally more expensive to insure proportionate to the slight differences in price. So $400 seems like a reasonable premium to pay for a new e92 335i versus a slightly less expensive Z4.

I had just switched to Geico, and I wanted to know how much to insure before taking delivery. When they told me $7xx, I told them that can't be right, can you bump it up to whatever a 2k6 M3 would be (class of vehicle that is). The girl said sure, just a sec, then she said she cannot override the quote, and they did not have 335 in the system, only 330, and the quote was based on the VIN. This car is not expensive to insure imho. I bet a M3 is double.

My 2008 335i Coupe only costs me $114 more per year (about 2200 per year total, I hate Delaware insurance rates) than my 2000 740i. I was shocked. Almost made keeping the 7 financial silly.

State Farm, living in PA. 5 cars, an 18 year old and a 21 year old on the policy. $1900/year. I think I would burst an aneurism if I had to pay 3 grand. Insurance companies are not rational at times. My sister got a nasty letter from her company after adding an MR2, telling her that there would now be a surcharge for having a sports car. Her daily driver is, and has been, a WRX. |

Geico
2001 IS300 - $545 / 6 month or $1090/year.. 2008 335i - $507.50 / 6 month or $1015/year.. Geico - multi-car discount I guess? I have 2 speeding tickets within the last 2 years (2 excessive speeding as well (90 in 65 zone twice caught on NJ Turnpike, damn!!) No accidents though, but at least 5 vandalism within the last 5 years... I am happy with $500 for my E92, and I live in Philly, PA.. :P
