SCARY Window and door lock malfunction
This morning I found my 2006 e90 with all of the windows down and the doors unlocked. I last exited and locked the car at about 9PM last night. All windows were up and I locked the doors with the keyless remote. This obviously scared the hell out of me as I live in a condo complex with communal parking. Thankfully, nothing was taken from the inside of the car (ipod, sunglasses, etc.) Nevertheless, I am concerned as this has never happened before. I was just wondering if this has happened to any other e90 owners out there. Sounds like a malfunction to me.

Happened to me before but my car was in the garage. My wife called me when I was at work after noticing it. I guess since the remote was in my back pocket I must have accidentally pressed the open button while sitting on the other car.

This usually only happens when people sit on their key fob(if the unlock button is held down all of your windows including your sunroof will open). Ofcourse your car has to be with in "key fob" distance in order for this to happen. Is your parking spot close to your condo?

Yup, happened to me one morning, and it rained all day...
parts of the black leatherette turned slightly bluish in color but other than that no damage was taken to the best of my knowledge. |

I guess it is not unheard of. I least it wasn't raining. However, I had a nice dusting of ash over my seats from this weekend's local brushfires. Thanks for responding...

Don't keep the fob in your pocket if you're within remote range of the car. I've developed the habit (almost) of taking it out of my pocket when I get home and putting it on a shelf, since I park close to the house and outdoors. I have opened the windows and sunroof twice -- once in the rain. Not a good thing.

If I remember correctly, this was discussed in one of the roundtables. BMW acknowledges that this happens, but doesn't see it as a flaw. They did however say that as a solution, the feature can be disabled, but that is up to the customers preference.

well luckily here in southern california we don't have to worry about rain, we worry about ash. But yeah don't have it in your pocket when you are close as you might accidently open the windows. Or all of your cars might be haunted. Look in your rearview mirror at night and see if you see someone in the backseat and you look back and no one is there, then when you turn back to drive he's on the windshield AHHHHH!!!!

This happened to me last December, unfortunately as it rained during the night. I don't think I sat on the key fob as i remove it when I get home. The other thing that contradicted the theory of sitting on one's key fob (for me at least) was that the sunroof was closed and we all know that if you push the open button on the fob it opens all the windows in the car, including the sunroof eventually. The car got pretty wet inside but i dried it off with a small heater inside and the windows cracked (otherwise it woulda never dried).
The other thing that happened, perhaps coincidentally, at this time was that my bluetooth started malfunctioning/locking up/dropping signals from my blackberry. I received denials from the dealer on all issues, and I resorted to finding issues with the Progman v25 to force them to update it, and then i had to buy an 'approved' phone to eventually get them to admit to the TCU fault (which shouldn't have been connected to the window issue but who knows). I have v29 Progman now, and thankfully this hasn't happened again.... |

Ahhh... remember the the times when windows could not be put down using a key fob?
Technological progress is great... for most part.
