'09 M-tech Wheel swap with heated steering wheel?
How does this work? I assume if you want the M-tech or M3 wheel, you have to go without the new heat feature for the wheel? I REALLY want that wheel, but I'm not sure if its worth it in the winter. I wonder how difficult it would be to switch back and forth...
Anyone given this any thought? |

TBH, the heated steering wheel is a cool toy, but not really worth the hassle of retrofitting one. My dad's old E60 530xi had one. I used it once, thought it was cool, and never ever used it again.
Today's 33 degree weather had no effect on my hands as well. Just turned on the ass warmers, the heat, and was on my way. no complaints As for retrofits, i don't think it'll be that hard. You're just gonna have to purchase the hardware (probably $$$) and the rest should be pretty much PNP. No one on the forum has done a heated steering wheel retrofit AFAIK.

With the top down this weekend in the 50s....running through at triple digits...I think it would have been a nice addition, but not something I would go and retrofit...

speaking of the integrated heated steering wheel. i have a 2009 328 loaner with heated steering wheel. i notice that it turns off within 5 seconds or so. whats up with that?! the owners manual is no where to be found. will it not turn on if its above a temp outside? i recall it staying on the night before, but today its a no go today.

This is the exact question I had. How can I retain the heating function while upgrading the wheel? Hopefully vendors will start to sell heated wheels soon.

It was an even Zero degrees this morning! A heated steering wheel would be sweet. A loaner X3 I had once had one. I enjoyed it.

It works really well. Heats up almost instantly. Great for people like me who hate wearing gloves. I think more cars should have them. Its dangerous when people drive with freezing hands and are blowing on them, or holding them in front of the vents.
