MY FIRST BMW after only 1 month ownership BE WARNED

So far from purchase 10/03/08 MY FIRST BMW experience

2006
330xi
16,500 miles
Purchase Price $31,900 plus tax/reg fees

Now has 17,700 miles

First week
Noticed a washer fluid leak on drivers side
Took it in got the loaner they fixed the retractable headlight nozzle on that side.

Second week
Noticed a washer fluid leak on passenger side
Took it in got the loaner they fixed the retractable headlight nozzle on that side.

Fourth week
Squeaking noise and choking noise while starting car cold
Back brakes replaced
Starter replaced

This week
I hear clicking like the fan or belt sometime (not all) when first turning on the engine while the car is cold.
Also noticed my front windshield had water on the inside of it yesterday like the seal is no good.
I scheduled another service for 11/24/08.

This sucks!! I don’t mind driving a loaner but every other week it’s ridiculous!!
I bet if I bought a Honda Accord I wouldn’t have seen the dealer once!
Sorry for ranting I’m frustrated with the quality so far.

PS: Selling it for what I owe 29K I have someone looking at it this weekend.

I though they pass a rigorous inspection!!!!

The Certified Pre-Owned title is awarded only to those BMWs that meet our demanding standards and pass a meticulous certification process. Owners of certified BMWs receive comprehensive BMW Roadside Assistance and extensive protection benefits with our Certified Pre-Owned BMW Limited Warranty.

"Certification

Not every BMW becomes a Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle. In fact, there's an entire certification process, including a rigorous inspection.

Only the best pre-owned BMWs qualify for the Certified Pre-Owned BMW Vehicle Program. To be eligible for enrollment in the Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle Program, a late-model vehicle must be in service for at least six months or have more than 6,000 miles but less than 60,000 miles on the odometer. They must pass an extensive examination - a thorough and rigorous inspection by BMW factory-trained technicians. They inspect the vehicle for safety, performance and wear. If something is not right, it is fixed. If it cannot be fixed, the car cannot become a Certified Pre-Owned BMW.

In short, we're picky. But when you see everything covered under our Protection Plan, you'll understand why."

06 was when the first E9xs came out. You bought a first year model, thats a big no no for me. I'm sure there are others with no problems with their 06 E9x but I always wait for second year just to be safe. That's the only advice I can give you.

I totally know what you are talking about.....

In my 24,000 miles of '06 330i ownership, I have had the following problems:

- ran low on washer fluid once - repaired this by adding washer fluid
- got FTM warning - found out I ran over a drywall screw - had tire repaired

So, there you go. Your problems are FAR from typical. Run out and order up that Accord!

I guess you can take the TSX off your list. Take the Accord off your list also according to posts #19 and 20! Not sure what's going to be left for a reliable car. Maybe the Odyssey? Oh... sorry - they have tranny failure issues also.

Dude a STARTER AND BACK BRAKES are not that typical after a month you'd think they would do an inspection prior to the sale and go over the car.
I drove it to work after getting it the next day and the washer fluid light came on! I said to myself you'd think they would fill the fluid up, but it was the retractable nozzel it the front bumper.
I guess this is all typical to you, but I would expect more from a BMW that's all I'm saying.

True, I wanted to get a 325i or 330i when they first came out, but I never buy a car in its first year of availability. That first year should be called "recall alley" as far as I'm concerned. It happens with any car brand too, just not BMW.

I have an 05 ZHP with no problems what so ever. Car is running beautifully. I was going to sell it, but then i changed my mind. It has 42335 and counting. It goes to the dealership for oil changes, and had to replace that alcantra steering wheel; which was wearing out abnormally. Other than that, mechanically, Thank God it is driven hard, and runs hard like a true BMW.

I guess I didn't think of the first year model issues when buying it.

my 06 had no issues. I dont know what the original owner did but obviously the car was not treated well esp with that low mileage. Certified preowned just means extended warranty....doesnt guarantee jack.

CPO as a concept is crap. I've seen CPO cars that have had accidents (not disclosed by dealers etc.) The guidelines imposed by the factory and good, but it's not the company itself that follows them and they can't always keep one of their guys to check what the dealer does. It would be much nicer if the factory had a center setup where actual BMW employees did the CPO and then distributed the cars to dealers.

+1

but if the factory did it, obviously the value of the CPO car would be much greater due to the additional costs incurred.

Don't get worried just yet. Give it some time. If the drivetrain is good on the car all those little things you'll vet out eventually.

my 01 330i was in the dealership for scheduled maintenance only. its currently with my brother, no major problems even though its now almost 8 years old with 100K miles on it.

my 07 335i has only been in for an oil change, its been solid *knock on wood* no fuel pump problems, nothing.

my 04 S60R was a nightmare. it was in 8 times in 3 years beyond the oil changes and other scheduled maintenance. the dealer had no idea how to fix it, every time it was in, only their master tech would work on it. and each time it was out of commission for days.

its luck of the draw.
most of your problems sound minor, just wear and tear, as for the ticking noise, whats your oil level at? bmw I6's get noisy when the oil level is nearing low.

I've heard the Toyota Camrys from the mid-to-late 1980s are pretty much bulletproof.

We've been trying to get the noisy power steering of my wife's Odyssey for the last 1 1/2 years. Japanese cars are great when they're running well, but the dealers seem to have trouble fixing them when something that's not simple goes wrong.

I don't think in this case the first model year has anything to do with it. That car sounds abused and wouldn't surprise me to hear later on the seals breaking because they didn't break it in properly

April 2006 build. 64,000 miles. Rock solid. Steering lock software update. That was it. Run the crap out of it, average 27.6 MPG. Best car I've owned. Also have an '89 E30 (293,000 miles) and '99 Z3 (130,000) miles.

BMWs are good cars.

Keep it. Let it "break" in. Accords drive like refrigerators.

I totally understand.
My car is a piece of crap and mileage i put on the loaners are almost same as how much i put on my car.
Very disappointed, but I'm in process of getting a new vehicle though. Will post how it goes...

I also have an '06 330i and the battery in my key fob was low so I had to replace it. I'm selling my car; this is outrageous. I thought the car passed a rigorous inspection? How could this slip through the cracks.
