Scheduled for first service..but no loaner

I scheduled for first service as my car is 13 months old and has 12500 miles. But SA said since it takes only an hr and a half, I will not get the loaner. Is it true?

Sometimes. I guess it all depends on the dealer. My SA asks if I can hang out if it may not take long but if I tell him no he doesn't not give me a car.

Yup- dealers don't usually give out loaners for oil changes (or regular maintenance since it should only take an hour or so. I had my 1st service done this past weekend and just waited there (watched tv, read some magazines, etc.).

What could you possibly do that requires a loaner for an hour and a half? Just chill at the dealers and see if you can test drive some shit.

Staying at the dealer for hour and half sucks.

Absolutely. Because the "hour and a half" most often turns into double or triple that time. If no loaner is available my dealer will often do a concierge pickup/drop off. If not I have my wife drop me off. Offering to wait for the car is inviting a very long morning.

Not for my first service. It only took less than 2 hours. Grab a coffee and muffin.

i got a loaner (A BMW too) from SouthBay when I dropped my car off for service this morning. It was suppose to to be done by end of day tho. And they actually called and said "we gonna change out your fuel pump...just in case (which still works with periodic long crank and engine malfunction issues, pretty rare tho).

pretty happy im getting a new fuel pump...

You guys are crazy. I have never sat at my dealership longer then I wanted to. I'm there as long as it takes to check in my car and if I want to go chat with any of the CA's.

I'm given a car regardless. Why? Because I've been using the same SA for everything since day one and we now have a good relationship going. I'm accommodating to him and him to me. I don't make him feel rushed or that he has to do anything immediately for me so I get the perks of always getting a loaner and even having the opportunity to request which loaner I want of the available loaners. I can even schedule my service around which loaner I wanted if I wanted.

Moral of the story. If you want a loaner it sucks to have a crappy loaner nazi dealer

My dealership has been great. They had to fix the buttons on my steering wheel which was a relatively brief job but they gave me an '08 528xi for the whole day. Kinda nice to drive a new 5 series, but not that one. Such a slow car; also an automatic

If I do decide to stick around the service centre to have stuff done, they have pastries, coffee, HDTV, and WiFi. It's a great place.

+10000000000000

Especially if you bought your car at that certain dealer they should/would give you a loaner for service other than things that only takes 30 min.

But over 30min is crazy...

Agree with the guys saying go for the dealers that will give out loaners. My SA told me that anything under 1 billable hour of labor (which the oil change was) did not qualify for a loaner. What ticked me off a bit was that I attempted to call in advance to set up an appointment so that I could sit there and wait for the car, but they wouldn't guarantee that. All the guy would say is "so when is a good time for you to bring it in"?

The bottom line is that 1 billable hour of labor does NOT equal a 1 hour wait in the lounge. IF they get to your car right away (and there's probably a <25% chance that'll happen), it'll still be 1.5-2 hours by the time they get the lot attendant to put plastic in it, tag it, drive it into the bay, work on it, have the tech write it up, then drive it back out. And that's if you don't want it washed by them, which most here don't.

I understand loaners are not mandatory, but when I try to schedule bringing the car in to get one, they should at least try to accommodate.

our dealer gave us a loaner for the day for the oil change. I scheduled an appointment online and requested a loaner. I made the appt for first thing in the morning and I had no issues. I told him I was going to be in court all day and could not wait on it. He understood and gave us a loaner. I guess it is a dealer by dealer case, and how well you know the SA.
