Ever been warned of a speed trap?
I've been driving in the Bay Area for over 20 years and only encountered this recently, within the past few years, where I've been highbeamed by the driver on the opposite oncoming lane to warn of an upcoming speed trap ahead. So far, this has happened to me 3 times, all in the East Bay. Each time, sure enough, either CHP or a local cop was up ahead with the radar gun pointed in my direction. And all 3 times I was going about 10-15 MPH over the limit and slowed down when high beamed and was saved each time.
I just wanted to give props to those who do warn other drivers and hope that trends spreads! |

This has been normal driving courtesy at least in New England for as long as I can remember, and it's something I learned from my parents when I was a kid. Whenever there's a cop hiding anywhere, you'll usually get flashed before you approach it. I warn people all the time.

LOL.. in NY i do that all the time, and people sometimes start complaining at my high beam flashing . LOL, They usually just turn their high beams on and blind me as i pass through.
I always think that they feel really stupid after they see the trooper. |

We do that here in Australia also but if you get caught its ticketable offence for warning drivers of a Police radar location.

Yes, I was caught in a two-way speed trap in Texas. Wasn't speeding, but got a stern warning about flashing my lights. Obstruction of Justice, he said....LOL.
I still do it...I am such a rebel. Bill

That's hilarious. It isn't against the law, I would love to see them try and arrest you for it though. Man my attorney would have a field day.

If I was to get pulled over, I'd love to see what he would write on my ticket... Nothing against cops, I just wish they wouldn't be dickheads when it comes to people driving with traffic... I got ticketed going 75ish a couple years ago IN TRAFFIC....guy was an asshole. I mean I was just cruising along, and people were passing me! |

Re: East Bay
Last Friday I saw two Dublin motorcycle cops using laser on Doughtery Blvd in a construction zone near Windermere. They were shooting in opposite directions from a T-shaped intersection. Interestingly enough, my V1 never made a peep. I approached the speed trap from the perpendicular (residential) location, so I was never in danger nor was I speeding. |

That was quite common when I was living in the South (of US) and I know someone who got a ticket for doing it because It's against the law apparently.
Not much done here in SoCali ...We rather flip each other off rather than warning about coming speed traps |

I've really, really wanted to try this:
Carry a white poster with the large red words stating "SPEED TRAP AHEAD". If I was to ever pass a speed trap, I'd be sure to post it in the ground a good quarter mile or so ahead of the speed trap. And yes, I use my high beams liberally to warn others. I hate speed traps and I hate bullshit speeding tickets. I've had way too many and it just pisses me off.

Very common in WI where I am from, living in NE now I still do it, occasionally I will get a wave from the other lane when they actually know what's going on. Most of the time though, NE drivers are so oblivious it doesn't do much good but I figure if I can help one person that's worth it. Saved a MB driver the other day, he waved and hit is breaks as he passed.
On a side note, living here for 8.5 years and I don't think one person has ever done it for my benefit. Ah well! |
