Exclamation Went it for first year service today...

Got an E90 loaner, I actually appreciate the back doors because it was easy to throw my laptop into the back.

Anyway, the SA told me that I'd get an oil change, topped off fluids, air filter, and breaks checked, etc.

One thing he offered me was a $150 tire balancing option. I naturally said "No, not yet", until I got to post here on E90Post.

Is the tire balancing option really necessary? I have 8,100 miles on my car btw.

He's owned the car for a year... he's entitled to an oil change.

Yeah, completely free oil change, etc. Also I get another free one when my service indicator hits 15,000. Heh.

it's the OP's 1 year old. (the cars 1st birthday) 15K miles, or 1 year old. that's what the book calls for, on the first pm service. just had mine done last month, 7K miles, oil/filter change, top fluids, brakes checked, most of the time they will even replace the wiper blades too, w/out even asking.

no idea on the wheel balance, you only do that if you have uneven tread wear, or a vibration.

nice quote.

You'd feel it if you needed a wheel balancing. Should only need it if a weight breaks off or if they weren't balanced properly to begin with.

Definitely no on the tire balancing, especally at that ridiculous price. I swear they are coming up with ideas on how to steal money.

If you feel no harmonic vibrations at 60ish MPH then it's a total waste. If you do, you can get them rebalanced in a variety of places at half the cost.

yeah, balancing and alignment.

but I don't notice the car being unbalanced (vibration, etc). He just said at 8,000-10,000 miles it's recommended...

Hi New, unless you are feeling a vibration which gets worse as speed gets higher you absolutely do NOT need rebalancing! And 150 bucks? My techs can do all four corners on a Bimmer in less than half an hour including hand torquing the lugs. We use stick on weights on the the left and right sides of the inside flat area of the wheel, and thoroughly clean the surface before applying the weights.
We use a high speed balancer (65mph) and balance to 5 grams. It's a dirty little secret that many dealerships balance to 55mph, and any out-of-balance of under 25grams is considered "good enough". What do we charge? $80.
Oh cute kid in the hat!

Thanks, that kid is eating into my M3 fund, so keep that in mind. Cute is expensive.

Thanks for the advice on the balancing and alignment. It seems the BMW Stealership is always trying to do this to me.
