Removing rear license plate frame

I want to remove the license plate frame for the rear. Currently with the frame, it is held very stable. If I remove the frame, will the plate flap and rattle? Will I be able to use all 4 screws? Or just the top 2?

Why don't you give it a try and see what happens, but more importantly, why do you want to do this?

I took the frame off the day after I picked up my car. I personally don't like them.

If it rattles I can't hear it. I did not take off the mount though, just the frame.

I haven't used the frames on any of my cars for 17yrs. I always liked the cleaner look of just the plate IMHO.

OP - don't be so scared!

when you put the plate back on, dont screw the screws in tight, it will mess up the threads on the inside

I should say, I still only use just two screws. I put one on the upper left/right, one on the lower opposite side.

I am not scared to do it

I am just away from the car, and thinking about a cleaner look. Since I have Alpine White, I just want to know if the plate would be "as secure" as the using a plate frame. I hope I can use all 4 screws.

Thanks for all the inputs.

You will be able to use all four screws. I took off the dealer plate frame first thing after my plates got put on. The frame only used two screws, I bought two more from a hardware store, no problems. The screws are metric.

no rattles here, just have the crome BMW frame around the tag.
i think ir sets it off nice, but like a car w/o it too.

On the trunk lid there is a bracket that is fixed using two screws in its middle. This bracket has four screw holes with brass inserts on the corners spaced appropriately for the US sized plates (12"x6"). If you use four screws you shouldn't have any rattles.
