I might be the least informed buyer ever

I've only had my 330i for 3 weeks. In that time I've learned a lot about my car and BMW in general. When I look back on what I didn't know when I bought the car, I have to roll my eyes at myself...

I didn't know my car had Logic 7 until today when is saw a map of where the speakers are and the Cinema/Music audio settings
I didn't know it had run flat tires until after I bought it
I didn't know it had Comfort Access until about a week in

Here's the big one I shouldn't even admit...
I didn't know that model numbers corresponded to anything. Fortunately I assumed higher numbers are better so I don't have to regret buying a 330. I think I really lucked out, in that the things I've learned have all been positive and I haven't had any "aw crap I wish I researched this first" moments.

I know there are a few others I should be slapped for but I can't think of them.

No real point to this thread, I just had to admit to someone that I bought a car knowing not much about it besides it was a BMW and it was great fun to drive.

well you should have researched the 335i or maybe even the M3... thats the don mega of 3 series.

enjoy the ride! you'll love it more and more every day finding out the million or so other cool features your car has. You have only tipped the iceberg.

To be honest he had nothing to do with it. I've always sorta wanted a BMW but never really saw myself having one for some reason. I can afford it, but I just never pictured myself in one. I really don't know why. Then I test drove it and before the ride was even over I knew I had to have that car.

The M3 is way out of my price range and a 335 would have been nice but the only one they had on the lot was hugely expensive. I wasn't in the mood for shopping around, I was in the mood for buying.

I'm looking forward to encountering all sorts of new and fun stuff

I need to figure out if I have active steering. Is there some tell-tale sign of it?

+1 The freaking mod bug bit me and now I can't stop itching it no matter how hard I try. I know its bad to scratch it but it feels so good, and now I have a rash that won't go away.

I don't know man.... I would of said you are ok if you ended up w/ a 335 sedan but you just bought a car that was only produced for a year..... It still is a great car but it is no 335.

I know exactly what you mean. When I got my car, for the first 5 months (until it got involved in a minor accident and doesnt feel the same anymore) the car put a smile on my face every single time I got in and fired it up. I am very sad, becuase I planned on keeping the bimmer till the bitter end, but now I think I will have to part with it soon.

But, I look forward to the next car...

sorry to thread jack. Dude, congrats on the purchase and its always good to learn more about what you own. Its rewarding, at least for me, when you get to understand your machine better and better until you know it inside and out, and can deal with the dealership being terrible in terms of service and advise :-)

Sooo true. There's literally a smile on my face every single time I walk up to my car, press the unlock button and see the LED puddle lamps, get in, and start her up. What a brilliant car...

That's another thing I didn't know the car had until I used it at night, the LED puddle lamps

I only did one super small mod which was the euro fog switch. However I think I want the illuminated M shifter and illuminated door sills next
Mods are way too much fun, even if they're small OEM ones.

Does the steering feel any different to a normal car?

Also, how many times can you turn the steering wheel all the way round before you reach each lock?

The point of active steering is that, at slower speeds (like when you are parking the car) it takes less revolutions of the wheel to go from lock to lock. So less effort on the part of the driver = more turn of the wheel, if that makes sense.

With active steering, the faster you go, the more you have to turn the wheel to achieve the same turn. It is made like that so when you are on the highway, you can input more subtle movements to the wheel to drift in the lane or changes lanes without much thought, and then when you go to park, you dont have to do a full 2.5 rev of the steering wheel to back in or pull out.

OP probably doesn't realize, since it is not discussed much here, but since he has CA on his 06 car, if he also has folding mirrors, he can automatically fold in his mirrors when he locks the door. The mirrors unfold automatically when the doors unlock.

To the OP -- just hold your finger on the CA ridges for an extra second or two, and the windows roll up, sunroof closes, and mirrors fold in. Mirrors unfold when you unlock, either with CA or the key remote. Just one of the cool little quirks on the 06 that wasn't continued with the 07 or later.
