Possibly but 135i usually have the trapezoid twin pipes rather than quad…:

I doubt BMW will ever make an M car with transverse engine (unless its some hybrid/electric model in the future, however why would you need quad pipes on that).

Indeed, agreed on that. It's a curious one.
I feel like it is the X1 M. BMW needs something to compete with the MB AMG 45 models so why not start with this one. Use the same 2.0T in the X2 M35i add a bigger turbo or increase the PSI then add stronger internals add the M Limited slip diff to the rear and front and have AWD standard.

Yeah it still rides on an Updated UK2 platform. But like I mentioned above it makes sense to compete with MB.

Well I guess I am wrong than, probably BMW is indeed competing with GLA 45 AMG. It is not that surprising, as I think about it. I am sure the X1M will be better to drive than the X5/6 M, albeit the FWD bias.
