The perfect CA addition - close the windows if Wiper-rain sensor trips
I got it, they should pay me for this brainstrom
Say you got the windows cracked and the storm cloud comes up, as soon as the wipersensor detects rain it raises the windows completely.

yeah except if it is a sprinkler system, it may be too late, since you usually pass the sprinklers, get sprayed, the windows roll up w/ your arms out....

Well, technically, they already have safety reverse or stop if it meets an obstruction... that has been in place for several years on all models (even those from detroit).
Not like it would be foolproof, but what is on cars now days?

Don't know, but what I do know is that my top is not object prone, i.e. if I am lowering it with my remote and some moron puts his arm in there.....bye bye arm! LOL or rather broken top o_o

It will never happen here. Some European Benz's already have that feature and the general opinion in the Benz forums is that the USA product liability lawyers would jump on that like flies on fresh dog poo.

Ok, then it should only be enabled when there is no weight in the front seats or ignition off. I dont have the need to have some THING do it for me (if Im present) only that it get done if Im not.

Good idea, but just one more thing that can break.

I'd be more concerned about the sunroof
Actually, this could work except for the fact that the rain sensors aren't always active, you have to press the button first, so you'd have to activate the sensors every time you get in the car. Maybe if when the rain sensor was turned on, it closed windows for you? The pinch sensor would protect passengers...

There used to be a company that made a module for the E46 vert up until about 2004 that would close your roof if you parked with the top down and it started to rain - they probably got sued out of existence the first time a top went up by itself and hurt someone!

Good idea, except for two things.
1. in the US it wont be allowed for liability reasons, they wont even allow us to have the remote close on our keyfobs. 2. They would have to overhaul our rain sensing system since it is not active when the car is off. One other thing they used to offer this a LONG time ago on the 5 series, I remember seeing commercials of the sunroof's closing once it started raining. But that was a time before lawyers ruled the land.

Most of the circuits stay hot on a 335 in some form (even with key off). Probably just take a firmware change to energize the rain sensor.

My aunt had a VW Jetta back in the day that the sensor never shut off if you left it in the on position, she brought it to a car wash and the freakin wiper got ripped off by one of the wash arms when the wipers turned themselves back on through the wash.

Could say the same thing about kids/pets in hot weather - something sets off the sensor and the dog cooks to death. Now, no idiot should leave any living thing in the car for any period of time but people do it anyway and we all know how lawsuit-happy people are these days. |

I dont believe this is true. From what I have monitored on the KCAN bus the car is actually VERY quiet until the user forces an event (i.e unlock, start button to acc, etc). Then a flury of activity on the busy occurs which looks like a general status report of all the peripherals and various system checks...

I don't get it. If I'm in the car, then rolling up the windows is easy. If I'm not, then the windows are rolled up anyway.
However, if CA could detect a fart and immediately roll DOWN the windows...

I dont know where you live but sometimes around here at certain times of the year it can go from a hot humid condition to rain in a few minutes with no warning. If the windows are cracked a bit to keep the interior a bit cooler, the surprise rain can get things a bit messy...
