[ADVICE] RFT or non-RFT

Someone talk me out of buying 2 new RFT Michelin PS2 tyres for 250 quid each. My understanding is that I should be able to get 4 new non-rft Michelin PS2 tyres for a similar price or slightly higher price.

Advantages of non-RFT
Better Handling
Smoother Ride
Cheaper to purchase
Less Road Noise

Dis-advantage of non-RFT
Non OEM setup
No Jack
No Spare
Resale problems ?

It would really be a personal choice.

If the pros of non runflats appeal, go for normal tyres, if you prefer the pros to runflats, stick with runflats.

I personally find them to be ok.

Yes, it is a personal choice. PS ZP runflats are much better than Bridgestone runflats.

If you go with normal tyres, you'll probably want to get some tyre repair goo (or the BMW M Mobility kit or similar) and you can always go the whole hog and get a space-saver spare, jack and wheelbrace, then you're no worse off than any other normal car.

I went from the OEM Bridgestones to non-RFT Michelins last year, a big improvement but still plenty of road noise. I just had some PS ZPs fiutted on the back and will hopefully get matching PS ZPs on the front when the fronts wear down. Why go back? Mainly because I often travel very early in the morning and take lonely country lanes where getting a blow-out would not be very pleasant.

I just had a valve fail last week (front tyre lost about 8 psi before the warning triggered), and I was glad to have the space saver which got me to my appointment (a further 30 miles) then on to the local Quick Fit who replaced the valve for £5. If I'd been on runflats with no spare, I'd have had to drive on the flat, potentially costing myself £250 for a new tyre by the time I got to where I was going, or called out BMW breakdown service. I plan to keep the space saver even once I get back to all 4 runflats - they're only good for 50 miles and I'm often more than 120 miles from home.

Where do you keep the space saver spare? Just sitting loose in the boot?

The BMW space saver can be easily secured inside the boot. It takes a big chunk of the available space though...

Here's mine:

I can recommend the PS2 run flats.

I've just replaced all four of my Bridgestone OEMs run flats with PS2 run flats and the ride and handling is far superior

I'd like to know where you got that set up and how much it cost aswell. I just bought a genuine BMW jack (comes with gloves, wheel brace/torque bar, wheel chalk and a jack) all in a small bag, only problem was the £100 it cost.
I also travel on back roads and sometimes travel across to the Scottish Islands so the chance of me getting a replacement RFT would be nil. This could be a solution to at least get me back onto the mainland.

Haven't a clue, mine came with the Bridgestone, a May 2007 model.

I paid £900 for the four (2 * 255 and 2 * 225, 18"), got them from my local dealer - Sytners. They had the tyres in stock, could fit them on the day I wanted, took 40 mins to fit from arrival.

My original write-up is here, the first post has details and prices:
Dumped the Runflats – Space Saver and M Mobility kit
