NOT REVVING PAST 3000 rpm [e90 320i]

i recently decided to revive my car and the battery was dead. i jumped the car just to gauge how the car runs overall even though it couldn't start without assistance and the car wasn't revving past 3000rpm. i waited for it to get warm because i thought that would be the reason and it turned out not to be the reason. so could the 3000rpm limit be a battery issue? something else? the car has been dead for a year and a bit now and it's a e90 320i. i read around that it could be the MAF sensor, could it be that? please help lol
