Chrome Window Trim Replacement

Hello,

I have a 2019 530e, Black with dark tinted windows. The other day, I saw a white 530e with the trim around the windows Black versus Chrome. I really liked the way it looked and now that I am looking at my car I would like to have the same.

A couple questions.....

Can the 'blacked out' trim be purchased after market for this car?

Is it a DIY project?

What would I expect to pay at a dealership to make this change if it is not a DIY project?

Thanks!

You can purchase it from the dealer it's called 'shadowline trim' but it is expensive and complex install process as it could involve changing rubber seals on the window. I'm sure it's possible to install yourself - the black trim is probably 1-2k. I bet the dealer would charge a lot to install it on top of that.

Alternatively you could vinyl wrap it gloss black which I is what I did and should run you 200-500$. Make sure the place is a reputable vinyl wrap company if not you will still see chrome and your car will be scratched if they do a bad job. I see lots of people go this route on this forum.

Lastly , you could plastidip yourself which might be tough but the cheapest. May not look the greatest.

Here is my car I did gloss black vinyl wrap on everything chrome. My year of g30 had a bit of chrome on the door handles so got that done as well. In the process of replacing yellow side reflectors to match paint color and replacing silver fins by wheel with gloss black ones from dealer.

Vinyl wrap is probably your best approach. A good detail shop will run you a couple of hundred bucks. Is that all you want to do is the window trim? If your grill is chrome, just buy a black BMW performance grill, $100 bucks and a five minute DIY job. Side fender vents and lower front bumper left/right chrome can be replaced with black.
This site has everything you need and lots of alternatives except for the window trim. That's definitely a wrap job.

Window trim is surprisingly brittle. I had some damaged trim on an e91 and the dealer was reluctant to touch it with good reason

Never would have thought of vinyl wrap. Thanks for that!

Any suggestions in the Central Florida Area for a good shop?
