Question to all E92 owners
I have a chance to pick up a 2007 335i E92 details below. I would however have to trade in my three week old 2006 330xi with 16k miles CPO and take a loss on it of $6,000! I would get $27,000 for the trade in.
Is it worth it for this vehicle? My vehicle has premium, and cold weather no sport or navigation, and it's an Auto Trasmition. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=178286 I love MT had quite a few of them but do travel about 60 miles everyday. Tell me what you guys think. Vehicle Information Series/Model: 335i Coupe Body style: Coupe Mileage: 16,789 Exterior color: Monaco Blue Metallic Interior color: Saddle Brown Dakota Leather Transmission: Manual Dealer's stock#: U15731 Price*: $36,995.00 Installed Options Premium Package Sport Package Comfort Access system Power rear sunshade Heated front seats Navigation system Thanks, Tom |

So you wanted a 535 because of space issues, but now going in the direction and getting a coupe instead?? hmmm - confusing..
but anyways, you said you wanted a faster car - the 335i is definitely a beast. The 60 miles you do everyday does not hurt you as a MT driver compared to if you did 10 miles through london rush hour (because i assume, your 60 miles are highway only, so basically 6th gear the whole time). I think the 16k (10k+trade-in on top of the 6k) sounds reasonable - I could justify it like this: 1) coupe: more expensive than sedans 2) 335i: more expensive than the 330xi 3) more options than your 330xi 4) probably the coupe is younger than the 330xi So overall, it is not a "must-do" deal but if you like the car that much, you should do it. I say: when it comes to cars, emotion goes first

You're right my emotion is first on this for sure. I wanted a bigger car first because I have a 2007 Yukon Denali that the wife drives and my vehicle is 95% work and home, but I do have 2 kids so I would use it some on weekends instead of the truck and with 2 car seats as they're are both young a bigger car would be better, but I always loved the coupe even before I went for the 330xi. I love the look of the coupe. I do pretty good coming to work 30 miles in the am hours, but afternoon you can't get away from the traffic in NY going to Long Island where I live so that will be mostly in 1st and 2nd gear I thought of it like this as far as resell value: 2007 vs 2006 a plus Navigation a plus Satellite Radio a plus Sports seats a plus Comfort Access a plus Coupe sporter look a plus The thing is your right the 16K plus 27K is 43K total for a 2007 with 16k miles not a great deal as a new one goes for about 51K with those options. |

Please elaborate what you don't like about E92 guys that's what I really want to know from you owners, as in the past few months I see more and more for sale not sure why (maybe the high payments).
To keep my payments the same as the 330xi which is $457 per month I need to put 10k down on the 335I. thanks! |

You also said that you have a pretty good size family, and the coupe is not a good option in those cases. Here is an example that came straight out of my life, and one that applies to a lot of people: I had a 2003 accord V6 (perfectly good, trouble free car with about 110K miles) It did what I need it to do - get me from point A to point B (work), but I always wanted to have an M3, so I said to myself that I am getting the new 2008 M3 when it comes out. A few days later, spent here in this forum, I changed my mind and I could not justify the new higher cost of the M3 and I decided to get a 335 coupe. So, I ordered it and I have had it for 9 months now. Great car, and I love driving it, I cannot lie about that. But what am I doing now the same point A to point B driving with a car that costs me more than twice as much than the good old accord, but I have satisfied my "hunger", or at least for now. A few days ago, I convinced myself that I "need" to make my 335 a faster car. Why? Because we will always want more!!! I know that I will keep the car for at least 4-5 years, but I can easily see myself wanting to get a porsche for my next car. Why? Because I will want more... Most likely, I wont be getting a porsche, because of expected family growth in the next few years, but the fact of the matter is that as human beings WE WILL ALWAYS WANT MORE... I hope this helps to make your decision easier!

What you forgot to add in the resell value: + 335i vs. 330xi + couple vs. seden You will always lose money on cars. People who write that you should keep your car needs to be reminded that few years down the line, when you get a new car, you have to put in even more money to get the car. I would see the 16k like this: 10k because you are getting added value 6k price you are paying for a wrong decision by buying the 330xi So dont try to justify the 43k to yourself, try to justify whether the 6k is worth paying to get the coupe.. I think YES (if i cant realize my dream, you should do it for me )...

I want to know who is giving you 27k for the trade? If I could get $27,000 for my '06 325 with 19,000 miles, I would sell in a second!!!!

Don't do it. That's a $2k loss per week. You made you your decision. Take the difference that you would pay for the 335i and buy a house or put it towards retirement.

but then u pay tax on the entire amount of the new car purchase. In case of trade-in, the you pay tax only on the difference
