Android Auto now officially available on BMW models alongside CarPlay
Android Auto now officially available on BMW models alongside CarPlay.
https://www.bmwblog.com/2020/05/27/android-auto-bmw/ I have read lots of links on the subject and on the forums and find some that say (as does the link and the text I post below) that ALL BMWs built from July 2020 will have it enabled and others that say it is only relevant to iDrive 7 cars onwards. The above link says: The moment a lot of people have been waiting for has finally come. Android Auto is going to be available for the entire BMW range starting this Summer. The German carmaker announced its plans to introduce the software on its models last year, but it looks like only cars made from July onwards will be lucky enough to get support for Android phones. They include the models built atop the UKL platform, such as the X1 or the 2 Series Active Tourer/Gran Tourer, which are still not available with iDrive 7. Other than that, all cars using the latest iDrive will get support from July onwards. I have seen posts where people say it is only available with iDrive 7, with iDrive 6 not supporting it because it does not have the correct hardware. Has anybody else seen that statement posted by another forum member? I cannot find it now otherwise I would provide a link. I find myself in a position where I have ordered a UK spec F48 2020 X1 xDrive 20i M Sport that has the following specification included: -610 HUD -6UP BMW Navigation Plus Both are in the Tech Pack II called ZT2. In fact they are the only codes in that pack in the UK spec Also -6CP (Apple Car Play Preparation) comes with the above. The car will have the 10.25" screen. BMW has not started building the car yet (dealer not yet notified) and so I hope that if it is started after Wednesday 1st July 2020, it will have Android Auto in it. I would love to hear comments on the above, whether you think it will or will not have Android Auto! It is not a show stopper for me, but it would be nice to have. I also know that it can be installed with a small hardware addition at a later date.

Are all previous BMW models out of luck then when it comes to Android connectivity? I just bought a 2017 BMW X1, and I am having issues with the infotainment system shutting off completely and then rebooting itself whenever my Galaxy Note 10+ is connected via USB. I took it back to the dealership, only having owned the car for a couple of weeks now. They said its a compatibility issue, but didn't have any solution. Is this fixable? Or am I stuck not ever being able to plug my phone into my car?? If anyone has any insight, it will be greatly appreciated.

Are you telling the forum you have coupled up your S10 phone to the X1? Then can see all the android icons/apps on the X1 screen and operate them by touch from that screen (not the phone screen)?

Considering how bad BMW is about backporting any features, ever, in their head units, I predict you will only see AA in cars built after the noted date, cars from before will never get it. |

I asked kubax86. He said it was not possible to upgrade to it either. As we all know, things change over time. If he reads this perhaps he will advise.

X1 has 'basic' headunit called Entrynav2 which is not capable of Android Auto (even Screen Mirroring is not possible).
