F20 Kombi replacement by used kombi

Hello,

I have F20 - 120d - 140KW, built 06/2016, M Sport packet.
My original KOMBI (VDO) is broke and beyond repair, so need to be replaced.

I have a USED older kombi with lower mileage, from a F20 from 02/2015, with exact the same options (related to the instrument panel) as my car.

The partsnumber-list tells me ; the used kombi is "compatible" with my (newer) kombi.

However, connecting the used kombi (power/can bus + fiber optics) gives me the red dot, a lot of non-related messages, and the needles are NOT working (kmh/rpm/fuel) -

i "virginised" the kombi (write "FF" in VIN locations & 0 km)

Using e-sys :
the original kombi shows me a CAFD, but ;
connecting the used KOMBI : there is NO CAFD in the list !!

1/ would it be possible to teach-in the used older kombi to my 2016 car ?
2/ if yes, i need inject CAFD in my non-CAFD kombi ?

which esys version is suitable for this operation ?

Thx

Should be possible if the Kombi is virginized.
Because the Kombi is „new“ for your car you have to assign a CAFD.
Depending on the software of your car you can use E-Sys 3.27 (older software) or 3.3x for newer software and psdzdata.

i think ONLY v3.33 can inject cafd, / v3.27 will NOT inject

confirmed ; virginise, inject cafd, code ; works !

when connecting used (+virginised) combi to the car, there is NO CAFD in kombi-VCM list
even whit a NON virginised kombi, thereis No cafd in kombi-list

1/ any reason why ?
2/ is "cafd" a "binairy file", ready to be injected (programmed) in the KOMBI eeprom/flash ?

E-Sys 3.27 was the best version for years and could also inject CAFD.
The 3.28 had problems with inject CAFD.

The CAFD contains the coding values of a control unit. If the control unit has never been in your car, the car and your computer do not yet know the coding values.
By assigning the CAFD, a CAFD with default values is assigned that fits the control unit and the car.
When coding, the standard values from this CAFD are then coded into the control unit.

The "empty" CAFDs can be found at C:\Data\psdzdata\swe\cafd
The written CAFDs can be found at C:\Data\CAF after "Read Coding Data".

ok, thanks for the info

any clue (in step-by-step guide) how to change the language (german) into French ?
each time the battery is off, the language jumps back to German
of course the easiest way is by the HUD car settings/language

or can it be "coded" that the combi is french-by-default ?

if so, anyone can point me in the right direction ?

Check the VO if there is the equipment code 851.
If yes, change it to 854 and code the HU and Kombi with it.

I have already done the retrofit on my f30 diesel engine to 6wa cluster but after coding I had the tamper dot because of the vin mismatch and when I tried to de solder the eeprom chip to virginize the cluster I broke the chip. So I went ahead and ordered another 6wa cluster but this time I ordered one from a petrol engine instead diesel and now I'm having a lot of errors. And the car is not communicating with the instrument cluster very well only mph gauge is working well, nothing else. I have virginized the cluster but still not working. I was reading the posts and I figured that I have to inject CAFD using esys and code it. But I'm not sure if this will work with me in this case since I have a cluster from a petrol engine on my diesel engine BMW F30?
