Maintenance Checklist
I'm sure it's somewhere in this forum, but I've tried searching and couldn't find anything.
Can someone tell me what is like the most generalized Maintenance checklist? Example: every 5-8k miles, Oil change. (thats as much as I know) Everything else like: Brake Fluids, Transmission Fluid and filter etc at X miles, can someone provide like a very generalize checklist of these? Thanks! |

Brake Fluid interval is shown in your iDrive, but should be every two years.
Transmission fluid is supposedly lifetime according to BMW, but most people recommend changing in at 50,000 miles... The same goes for differential fluid as well.

Make sure you visually check your pads, don't listen to iDrive.
Rotors usually last two brake pad lifetimes. Oil - 5-10k (personal preference & based off if vehicle is tuned) Trans fluid - every 60k Brake fluid - 2 years Coolant - Personally i'd visually inspect it and make sure it's at the same pH Diff fluid - Do your own research, I don't own an xDrive Spark plugs & Ignition coils- 50-60k (also based off if you're tuned) Gaskets- when that POS starts leaking BMW claims trans + coolant is "lifetime" but take that as you please Last edited by davidr3; 05-08-2020 at 02:26 PM.. |

You can just change when broken but BMW recommends them changed roughly at 60k. Once again take it how you will, I wouldn't wanna wait till my car's misfiring, the same way I don't wait for a gasket to leak for me to swap them. You know you're getting close might as well do them, that's just me though. Your cars your decisions

BMW is always glad to take your money- coils do fail but it's rather unusual. I've been driving Bimmers for 16 years, do a fair amount of my own service/repairs - I have yet to experience a failed coil pack on any BMW I have owned, and I have owned 7 of them, two were driven in excess of 200K miles.
It's not a mechanical wear part like a break pad- my guess is the 60K recommended interval is likely what BMW feels they can get away with, I.e. Mr car owner will feel it is acceptable. Look in your owners manual, you won't find coil packs on the list of periodic service items. Coil packs on direct injected engines do have greater voltage output compared to older port injected motors, but the coil packs are designed to operate reliably regardless of type of fuel system. |

Correct... it just not BMW. My Honda, Nissan/Infiniti don't list coil packs as periodic service item either.
But spark plug, I will change mine as I'm running bm3. |

My warranty just expired in January, and I'm
at 72,000 miles. Since then I've done the following myself New plugs and coil packs Engine flush and oil change AFE dry air filter New drive belt and tensioner Differential fluid exchange New transmission pan and fluid New pads and rotors all around The plugs, coils, belt and fluids were all recommended by the Indy shop I took the car to in December for a final inspection based on mileage. The rest I did just cuz I wanted to. Still to do is coolant flush.

I picked up a used F30, first BMW, and I too struggled to find long term schedule. This schedule is well written and respected BMW authority, Mike Miller.
On a side note, I am just shy of 100k and the most reliable car I have ever owned! https://www.dslreports.com/r0/downlo...e%20v03.13.pdf |

What I also notice that the maintenance schedule are almost the same for all kind of car. They are very close .
What I mean I been doing close to the same thing in my old Nissan and Honda. The problem is people just don't do it.... maintenance on there car. |

OP, here's a thread I posted on all the maintenance I did for the first 100k miles. It is a lengthy post, but has a lot of information: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...00%2C000+miles

I'm making my own schedule for my F31xd. Are there any opinions on when to change fluids for transfer case and differential?
Mike Miller's guide recommends doing it every 30k for the older Exx cars and Palantir does it every 50k. The consensus for the ZF ATF change is around 60k. So I'm thinking of doing it at the same time for simplicity.
