Just picked up a 340i

Hi everyone, my name is Greg and I just picked up my Melbourne Red 2016 340i. I've been in a BMW since 2012 when I picked up my E46 325Ci, which I plan on keeping to compliment my F30. That car has been almost entirely restored, down to nearly every cooling system hose, interior trim piece, and suspension bushing. Could never part with it.

On to the F30, I'm enjoying it thus far. Definitely a big step up in power compared to the E46. However, I feel it's lacking somewhat in steering feel and feedback. Ride is good but doesn't seem as planted as my E46, granted that car has stiffer dampers and springs. Gain some lose some I guess. I suspect I just need more seat time adapting to the car.

Also, I'm taking to the dealer for work under factory warranty tomorrow. These should all be covered, right?

-Peeling finish on stop/start switch
-Windshield cowl dry-rotted (thanks South Florida)
-Black chrome exhaust tips are oxidized
-Clear coat peeling on 2/4 wheels

I'm excited to be here and eager to learn more about the platform!

Congrats! Now toss the start button and replace it with a blue or red one.

Tint your windows and do a chrome delete.

They might not do anything for your exhaust tips but they should replace your cowl and start/stop button. They might try to claim the clear coat damage is not part of the warranty, I'm not sure.

Not much you can do about the steering, but the M Performance suspension is a great upgrade.

your thoughts on the F30 are correct and even more apparent without the M suspension and looks.

*Tint windows
*Dinan exhaust or M performance exhaust
*upgrade to M suspension and add Dinan lowering Springs
*tune engine, currently I'm running 454hp/tq, with upgraded FMIC, CAI, EXHAUST, DOWNPIPES, and BMW MPPK from factory

enjoy, she will need some adding bits to feel how it should of from the factory

Thanks guys! I'm getting ceramic tint done on Saturday and may wrap the window trim gloss like the E46 (then would get gloss grilles to match). I'm pretty happy with the stock power and don't plan on tuning just yet, but maybe when the warranty is up. Already enough power to get me in trouble haha

Also unplugging the plug to the exhaust butterfly flap won't throw any codes right? Figure that's a good start for exhaust before maybe going Dinan or MPE

I see the 397 wheels, so guess you have the squared 225/45 tires , correct? What brand and type are those?

If you plan to keep the wheels, you can consider fitting some good UHP 235's or 245's. This improves both the steering communication from the road surface and better power transfer on the rear axle. But take your time, as there are so many options.

What I can recommend as the very first thing is getting the Bimmercode and spend some time playing with coding. Many stupid things coming from factory or your personal preferences can be easily solved this way.

You will never get that hydraulic feeling fully back, it's unique to that system. Road feedback and overall driving experience, however, can be largely remedied with the right suspension, tires as well as the often overlooked sportier alignment.

Some toe in and negative camber can significantly enhance the car's driving characteristics. I recommend a motorsports oriented alignment shop who knows how to dial it in for your specific situation.

Get some decent rubber (MPS4S) as wide as you feel comfortable going for traction and feedback. RE71R's for shorter life but amazing grip.

Enjoy it, brother!

I'm trying to figure out simplest way to do the coding I want done.

As far as the other comments, it seems no one likes your car as it is.

I'm jealous of your e46...was this close to asking if you wanted to trade! I'm still getting used to it too...it's beginning to feel a little smaller, but I think it's a good 6" wider with mirrors.

Drive safe and enjoy!

Thanks guys! I just got back from the dealer, they replaced the stop/start switch and the cowl, but declined the exhaust tips (environmental factors) and wheels (they claim they were refinished, but they don't appear to be).

Also, the front passenger door wasn't lining up. They diagnosed the problem to be the lock actuator and replaced that. However, they did a number on my door pull that was otherwise perfect before and now the wood trim doesn't line up. The dealership should make right on this, no? It sucks because the pry marks are right in sight line.

Normally I take pics of everything before going in but totally forgot this time. Fingers crossed

Is your 340i a xDrive? Looks like a lot of gap between wheel and fender. If so, that contributes to the steering numbness and the soft suspension. Congrats on the new car, love the sport package, the 397 wheels and the sport seats

Did you get the door handle fixed?

I have taken out the front door trim before.

See detailed source below (newtis.com is useful if you haven't heard of it before):
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...rests/HnMDC9mw

I think they didn't correctly place the hook in picture #1 (in the link), reference #3.

I don’t get the start button thing? I have black interior in my 2016 328i and feel like any other color button would cheapen the look.

Thanks guys! Not an xDrive, but I agree it does seem to sit high. Also not a fan of the red start button in a beige interior, dealer put a new black one in. They did also replace the door handle.

Got ceramic tint this weekend and put in the M Performance grilles. Does the bumper-hood gap look ok? Had a hell of a time lining it up.

Car looks good. Glad to hear the dealer fixed up the door handle but not fixing the finish on the wheels??

Anyway, want an option that beats all others? Limited Slip Differential. Either the BMW or Quaife or . . . I'm sure there are a few more but it really does make a difference. You'll think you bought another car . . . like an E36 or E30.

I didn’t know there was a 16 340. The taillights look like my 2018.

I'm also looking for pick a used 2016 340i, the thing is its been slightly modded, at 38k miles, its got the dinan air intake, MPE, and some computer remap that was indicated on CARFAX report, I looked around the car and the previous owner seems like he took really good care of the car. Anyone know if this would be a good pick up? is 38K miles high?

My last bmw went 386K miles. 38K miles is nothing, unless it was abused.

I'd just make sure you know what the remap is and consider returning it to stock to be safe...if you want to keep it any length of time.
