Non mechanic trying to diagnose and repair tapping/knocking noise.

Engine is fully out and mostly torn down minus the head and bearings.

Wondering what you think of the status of this chain tensioner?

Forgive me if I’m wrong, but my guess would be that the chain tensioner will do that so long as there is no oil pressure.

Good thought! I did some research and found that not all tensioners are oil pressure regulated.

There is a really heavy spring in the top part of the tensioner that is popped out since I have the guide off. It is pretty difficult to push in by hand.

I don't know if oil pressure is a variable on this one. Maybe i can get a better idea by removing it
