Battery options!

Red battery light came on today.
Tested the battery while the car was running and it read 11.64v

Don't know how old this battery is, but what are some decent battery options that won't necessarily run my $250?
I know I'll have to register the battery

Walmart or Costco
type 49/H8 of the same type as what you have in there.
(AGM or lead/acid)

Thank you. Shortly after posting this I found a thread on here stating to just match what battery is in the vehicle and you don't have to register/program

Pepboys always seems to have a 25-30% coupon on the top of their page which can be applied to the Bosch AGM batteries.

If you want non AGM then walmart is good and I think I did see that Costco is finally carrying the bigger 49 series batteries.

If you get the same type and Ah don't need to program (code) but you still should register it.

Walmart H8 Everstart Maxx, best battery you can buy for the cost. It’s made by Johnson Controls and was rated by one of those consumer rating sites as one of the best batteries in its class. It beat out all the other brands. I think it’s only like $129.
I purchased one myself and it’s great!

This month I bought two Group 49's from Sam's Club. Non-AGM was $130 and AGM was $180. Installed myself then used Carly to register them.

Ah, just realized you have an e46? I do not recall if you have to register a battery on newer e46's. I had an e46 for eons, but it was a 2000 model and did not require battery registration.

Hunting for a battery for my 06 330i this last week. Pep Boys is discontinuing the sale of Bosch batteries and they are no longer available on their website. They had a few left on the shelf, but not our size. I understand if the Bosch battery needs warranty, Pep Boys will replace it with their Champion Battery. I crossed Bosh of my list.

Bump for an update

I let the car sit for awhile. Checked the battery again with my DMM.

I don't think you even need to register the e90 battery's.. it's only a data addition to the computer it doesn't affect the way the ibs works.

I read it was for BMW to see how long their battery's were lasting in cars.

The battery is currently on trickle charge. As soon as it gets above 12v I'll take the car to have the alternator tested

Well battery is bad.

Am I fine with replacing with the same type of battery? At least long enough to get my car back up and running?

If the car was running like OP stated then this is what he needs to be looking at. With the engine running he should be well over 13v because the alternator is what is making the power.

it could be the bad alternator killed his battery which it will do to the new battery too.

+1

Just check the voltage WHILE the engine is running. If below 13, investigate the alternator/voltage regulator

That's too bad, I had good luck with them.

Thanks for the update, I had no idea.

+1 for bad alternator. No need to take it to a shop for that diagnosis, if you have a multimeter...
