Some scientists predicted that when the LHC went on line, there was a chance it would create a black hole that would destroy the Earth.

And even that would be a stretch! Because the Schwarzchild radius for a black hole formed by two hydrogen ions collided is on the level of a few nanometers, the black hole is only able to sustain itself for something on the level of 10^-12 seconds before it evaporates into nothingness... During this time, the cumulative power output would be roughly .45 Watts for 1/1000th of a nanosecond...
