Oxidation on oil cooler, how to get off?

My car was sitting this winter outside under a cover, i didn’t intend it to so i never really winterized it like i would have. I opened my hood today to charge my battery and my oil cooler had what looked like corrosion on it like your battery terminals get, some of my alternator did too.

I was pretty surprised. Does anyone know why this would happen? I did get my car detailed right before it sat and i know the detailer did some of the engine bay. Could it be from something he used?

Either way is there a best way to get it off? Otherwise I’ll just scrub it.

Does it look sort of like white spots? I'm not sure exactly what causes it, but you can get it off really well with a wire wheel. It'll get nice and shiny.

I did discover that if you spray engine detailer on it while it's warm, it'll corrode again (or stain or something, I dunno what it is) - so don't do that

Yea it’s white. I rubbed it and it turns into like a white powder. It looks like the titanic underwater lol.

Alright I’ll scrub away

that's aluminum oxide.

a mild acid removes it.

spray it with vinegar, brush it off, wash thoroughly.
