BMW Service Damaged Rims - Poor Repair

BMW damaged 3 of my rims while doing wheel alignment. They offered repair and stated that rims will look like new. When I received car back from the repair- machine sand and powder coating, they don't look closely to new, they look like someone did a poor job. Paint is on the outer edge of the rim, where original rim is unpainted and it just looks off.

Does someone know if this is just a sad reality and BMW can get away with such a crappy job or there is something that I can do so they mount new rims?

See 2 pictures of the repaired rim and 1 original rim. Top and bottom ones are the repaired rim, middle one is the original one.

Thanks!

Is the car leased or did you buy it?
If you bought it, don’t let them off easily and make them redo it to perfection or give you a new rim.
If you leased it and you can live with it, try and get it in writing that the dealership themselves redid the rims and that’s the best they can do and not to ding you when you return the car at the end of the lease.

I see they tried machining the lip. While I think that looks OK, it's unacceptable since it doesn't match the current wheel and you don't like it. Tell them they permanently damaged the wheels. Regardless if it's a lease or not, assuming you just got your car, you shouldn't have to deal with that. I'd push for a replacement. Just make a stink about it. Most decent dealerships will make it right. Especially if it's the one you bought the car from.

I would go back to the service center and express your disappointment and see if they can settle on making things right. A service department can be very important in car ownership so make sure you have a good one who treats you right.

I had something of a similar issue with my 330i when I took delivery. I got the black 19 inch rims and noticed the next day that one of the rims had an imperfection in it.
Half of it had flat paint like of someone tried to a hide a defect.
I took it in the next day and they tried to tell me it was brake dust that was cooked into the finish.
Long story short they did not want to fix it but in the end I told them this is not a Hyundai and not even in a Hyundai this is acceptable. So they ended up paying a repair shop to fix the rim.
I would say complain until you get it your way. Do not settle for anything less. Made an account to say that.

For,what it's worth, in my experience bmw do not do wheel repairs themselves but sub contract the work out.

As such they should be arguing with the sub contractor, but your 'argument' remains with BMW.

As an aside, I had 'kerb rash' on all four wheels of my f34 (yeah, I know...) and got them refinished through my wheel/tyre insurance....they were superb at first. However, four years down the road the lacquer on all four was flaking, mainly around the centre cap. Maybe I was just unlucky, but maybe the aren't ever the same after a refurb.

That's why I picked up an additional brand new set of 791m rims with unused tyres when I bought my G20.....there are quite a few sets knocking round as the M Performance upgrade with 20" rims is dealer fitted pre-delivery to customer.

That's a really poor job, and frankly grinding down the rim further may ruin the shape in that area. That part should be smooth. They should replace your rims

I got curb rash on my M2C, and a pro made it good as new

BMW didn't scratch your rims or do a bad job The dealer you go to was incompetent and outsourced the rim repair to a mediocre shop

So "BMW" is not getting away with anything. BMW has no significant influence on how a dealer refurbishes rims.

If you don't like it ,request new rims . IMO if it doesn't shimmy it looks ok to me

Ask the dealer nicely and you will get new rims. Lease or not, you should be able to enjoy your car as you like it while it is yours. You bought and paid for a very nice car. That is what you are entitled to.

Honestly BMW is usually very good.

Same thing happened with my F30, eventually after my patience letting them try to have them "refinished" after they ruined them prying the center caps out with a metal pick, they replaced the wheels with new after my patience ran out.
