For those of you who are currently using a jailbreak 3g iPhone (without paying the iPhone data plan), do you get to surf the internet anywhere provided by AT&T 3g service?

As far as I understand, with the Apple iPhone Data Plan, the customer will be able to access to internet from AT&T's 3g service as long as the area is covered. But the Ads from some individual iPhone sellers have indicated that buying a jailbreak 3g iPhone will save the money on Data Plan, and you can do the same without paying? Is it true?

In case that's true, isn't it much cheaper to buy a jailbreak 3g iPhone?

$700 (jailbreak 16g iphone) vs. $1019 ($299 initial sign up + $30 Data plan/month * 24 months)

If anyone has experiences in this, please advice.
