M340i catless downpipe

Hello everybody.

I want to ask the ones who have catless downpipes installed, how bad is the smell?

I want to get it, but I'm afraid it will be to much gasoline smell.

Many thanks

Hello.
I put in November sport catalyst 200. In 2 weeks removed. There's a smell of gasoline. Brought everything back.
If you need it, I can send it))

Just got mine on today, you'll smell it once when you get out of the car if you have a garage but it isn't terrible, if you sit in park and idle with the windows down for awhile you'll eventually smell it for sure but I don't know why anyone would do that.

I’m running catless downpipe on my m340. Yes it does smell but only if the windows are down and ur at a red light or parked. When driving u can’t really smell it. But the pops and burbles overweights the smell, making it worth it. Instagram @orange_m340i

Hello.
Sport catalyst Wagner.
If you go quietly it does not smell. There is a smell during aggressive driving. And many notice this behind.
I live in the center of the city. This option does not suit me.

Although I really wanted to put it for the sake of sound and power gain.

Haha thanks! Honestly it doesn’t sound good on video. It’s louder in person and aggressive. It’s not those annoying popcorn burbles.

i can imagine that. i know that from my own videos. in person there are much more frequencies you pick up. i just cant wait for delivery in february... the first thing i planed is to install a downpipe and see if i get happy with it. if not... im going to put a bastuck on it aswell:-)

you guys in the united states and canada are really lucky because you dont have those annoying restrictions and petrol particle filter.

I'm still no 100% on which one to buy.

Catless is best probably in every way, just having some trouble with the smell.

Here in Switzerland I can have some problems with that, and so, I'll probably go with a catted one.

OPF really kills the sound here in Europe.

Not really the case as the laws vary depending on each state/province.

For example California recently got a law on how loud the exhaust can be. In New York, you won't pass annual state inspections if you have a catless downpipe.

I had this concern before I went catless. After living with it for 50k miles it's a non issue. I don't even notice it. However my friend always comments that he loves the way my car smells when I meet him in the parking lot at the golf course.

Yea- having law enforcement even have awareness of exhaust system components; never mind enforcing anything is a completely foreign concept to this life-long Metro-NYer. Here in NJ vehicle inspection consists of exactly one thing; emissions testing. You could have 3 wheels and removed the seats and you'd pass as long as your tailpipe emissions are clean. Even so- I haven't inspected any vehicle I've owned since 1994. I've only gotten pulled over twice for it, with one ticket. So I just don't get my car inspected at all.

How do you renew your registration then?

I don't know about NJ but NY state DMV doesn't give you registration renewal sticker unless they electronically verify that the inspection was done within a 12 month period.

In NJ they just want your money. You don't have to show proof of inspection to renew your registration.

The install is not bad at all.

2x13mm bolts holding the downpipe
8x8mm bolts holding the exhaust brace
2x10mm bolts holding up muffler
1 exhaust hanger
2 O2 clips

Took me about an hour from start to finish.
