CarPlay fee

https://www.extremetech.com/extreme/...pricey-bimmers

I just read that BMW is dropping the CarPlay fee. I have a 2018 X3 M40i and I haven’t signed up with BMW for CarPlay. Is this dropping of CarPlay fee applicable only for new vehicles or applicable even for older vehicles that haven’t yet subscribed to CarPlay?

TIA

BMW is not giving up on initial fee so if you want it you still have to pay to bmw couple hundred euros/dollars to get it.

Try a search. There's a ton of info on here about ACP being free since late November, early December.

I called a few weeks ago in the same exact boat as OP. They are NOT waiving that $300 fee, it’s for benefit of 2019+

I guess otherwise all those who paid the $300 fee in 2018 will lineup for a refund.

It must have been part of some package you took with your car. BMW is continuing pushing that fee so in Europe it's ~400$ to activate carplay.

Nah, I believe they just want to squeeze something, whole bmw connected is separate department so they want to earn money. It's just that whole nickel on dime is so cheap for me that I have rather soar taste with BMW. We pay hefty premium for their cars in Europe and then they squeeze couple hundred dollars on trinkets, really pathetic.

Doubtful. They’re calling it an “activation fee”, once you pay it, it’s good for life, but if you have a 2018 or below, you have to “activate” it first...

I guess it depends on region, in Europe activation is required even for today ordered cars.
