My 2020 X5 Sdrive Order and quick production!

Ordered my 2020 X5 Sdrive July 29 and went into 150 Production status next day July 30 with an Aug. 7 competition date and an expected delivery probably no later than Aug. 21

Now that's Fast. Anyone else order a new Sdrive?

Mine is an XDrive with an Aug 4 completion date. Where did you get the expected delivery date from?

I'm in Florida too, Central Florida.

I used BMW NA too, 800-831-1117, but it only gave the completion date when I asked for Production Status. Is there something else I should ask for?

Speak to an agent and ask them what they estimate the delivery date will be in your location barring any production interruptions

I thought the 2020 GO5 ordering/pricing guides show a start of production date of August 19?

I don't think the production line needed any changes as it would for a major model change because there is not a lot of difference between MY 2019 and MY 2020. So they just started building MY 2020's once there had production slots available.

The data in the guides was just an estimate.

I assumed the pricing guide showing 8/19 meant August of 2019 (ie as soon August 1st). Didn't occur to me it could have been the 19th of the month. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

No... It's August 2019. If you look at the MY 2019 order guide you see SOPs of 11/18, 12/18, 4/19, etc. So it's obvious it's the year and not a date.

That's makes sense, so the 2020 production could start anytime during the month of August. But apparently they are building 2020s in July! There may be updates to the pricing/ordering guides we haven't seen.

I think SOP is an estimate. I'm not sure if this is accurate, but I took SOP as when the dealers will get them, so that means they're being produced before that date.

Obviously if BMW doesn't have anymore 2019 orders, they're not going to halt production until August 2019. They'll start the 2020's as soon as the last 2019 rolls off the assembly line.

BMW typically considers the build week and/or date to be the completion date. No MY2020's were completed in July, so MY2020 SOP reflecting sometime 8/2019 would indicate to me that the first models rolling off of the production line would do so in August of that year.

Update,
My completion date is now August 9th from August 7th. Looks like everyone is pushed back 2 days. The production is experiencing labor pains

Ray, any chance you can get some info from your dealership team regarding the MY2020 CARB and EPA holds for delivery release?

I'm figuring the first batch of MY2020 examples is rolling off of the production line, at the latest, by this Thursday or Friday.

Right from there, a vehicle should be submitted for the tests/certifications. Even if that takes one week, your dealer saying there's a possibility of delivery by Aug 14th - I am a skeptic. Even with a two day push on both ends, I'm a doubter on a delivery in your posession by Aug 16.

Does anyone on here have insight to this cert/hold process for Model Year changeover with no powertrain changes? (Yes, M50 is in a different bucket here)

Let's all hope I'm way way offbase, and the CARB/EPA certificates are in BMW's hands by next Monday.

My dealer is relatively useless I'll check with the BMW team sometimes you get a knowledgeable agent.

What is the deal with the CARB/EPA certificates on hold? is there a thread or news about this?

It's more government intervention in the free market, that's what it is!

Apparently EPA and CARB want to retest every model year for compliance, independent if there have been any powertrain changes. The M50i, I fully get that going through a review and hold - but for the N58's, there should be no need. It is what it is though, we're all subject to it right now.

I went digging in the F15 forum for early 2015 build owners to see what their order/delivery deltas looked like - from what I could tell the EPA hold looked like 7-10 days on the high end from the end of first build week MY2015's.

Who the hell knows - I can say if BMW knows as much as we know, they have no business managing their own supply chain. All of these things should be QR and instant database feed - then the online tracker would be minute by minute accurate.

You'd think BMW never sold cars in the USA before, as not a single person seems to have any insight on to the expectation of hold length.

I've been asking all around this forum since I pushed off my 2019 build allocation to get a 2020, but it seems largely like I'm speaking into an empty room.

I wonder if the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE had a certificates hold issue.

Time to start a new thread ,CARB/EPA certificates on hold update, so BMW tracking could check with us

Are 2020 GLE's out in the wild now? If they are, I'd be curious to what their first build dates were for the MY - but it is a full redesign if I'm not mistaken, so they could have been submitted well ahead of models showing up at dealers.

It's just a fun distraction really, this obsession of tracking builds - it all matters for naught once the car is home and first thousand miles or so have passed. For me, it's just a harmless outlet for the anticipation that builds from the moment spec decisions start to come into focus.

I will say that I feel like I 'care' less about the condition and preservation of such with the cars that I've bought right off the lot versus cars that I've personally specced/ordered.

My build timeline update:

Ordered my 2020 X5 July 29, dealer used first set of allocations, went into 150 Production status next day July 30 with an Aug. 7 competition date then pushed ahead to Aug. 9 today and now assembly started per Tracking status. Expected delivery sometime next week my guess Aug.14 exceeding my expectations
