Huh interesting I'll look at some of the X1 forums in a little bit. But don't you think it's just weird how you strictly in Sport mode? Don't get me wrong I like Sport mode in cars but sometimes I like the comfort mode as well.

I find sport a little too pedal happy, but the tuner could fix that.

So I just got back the X2 and my friend, head manager for services told me that there was a part that was not completely connected in the engine. This part is what feeds air into the engine. They weren't able to replicate the situation before and after the fix. It actually runs a lot better now compared to before. I do advise that you all look at this part as it could be the cause of the situation albeit it might just only be my car that had this hose connection issue.

No I am still testing it out but I advise to check the same location or take it to local dealership and say you have the issue where it doesn't go.

I've had this happen on my 2.0 litre petrol with 7 speed DCT. Dangerous and annoying. In very similar situations to the OP's.

It's not so bad when using the 'Sport' driving mode.

I guess it's a combination of the engine lag ( i guess the M35i lag could be even worse given that it's more power out of the same sized engine?), combined with the 'learning' of the ECU/accelerator, whatever, that seems to want to keep the gear as high as possible for fuel economy?

Ruined the driving experience of my E90 335i automatic that I owned previously.

Just wish I could have bought a manual

Do people find this gearbox 'lag' worse after a distance travelling at steady higher speeds? That's what I find, and I think it's because the gearbox/throttle/engine 'learning' puts it into an economy mode. It's annoying, and possibly dangerous, like when trying to merge into another lane and I don't know whether the car is going to respond quickly, or sluggishly.

I find when I tootle around for a longish period in suburbs, or light traffic, then the car is more responsive to small throttle inputs.

In my case at least, I'm sure it's not the hose issue, but the so-called learning inbuilt into the components...aimed at economy and possibly a smoother (older-person's) drive

Annoyed me more in my 335i. Maybe the X2's 7-spd DSG responds a little quicker, and the one extra gear ratio helps a little...

For those looking for the location of this hose, a bit of detective work shows that part number 863360 which you can see in the photo above, is one of the ignition coils that sits on top of each of the four spark plugs. So this potentially loose hose appears to run across the top of the engine block if that helps anyone...

I'll try to take off the engine cover and see.

Thank you for posting this I did not know where the location was for this. I hope this does help out lads!!

I took the engine cover off last evening. That's actually quite easy to do. Just lift the front edge firmly and it will disconnect from these 2 x sockets. Then put your hand through the gap between the windscreen air/intake base and the stabiliser bar and you can reach the rear of the engine cover. Just pull up the rear and that's off!

Anyway, couldn't see any loose hoses. Didn't really expect to in my case as it didn't sound anywhere near as bad as the OP's.

To put back the cover just line it up with the oil filler cap and then push down at rear, and then front.

Thank you for posting this. I’ve had my M35i for two weeks and have been experiencing the same problem; in fact, it seems to be getting worse. I’ll be checking for the loose hose this afternoon.

This is still happening to me with my M35i on a regular basis and today was particularly bad. The trip home from work involved a lot of stop and go traffic and I nearly rear ended the car in front of me twice because of the throttle lag. I went to accelerate and the vehicle hesitated then jumped forward in a burst after about 2 seconds. Also, while trying to make a quick left turn against oncoming traffic, the throttle lagged so badly I nearly caused an accident . . . also twice. The Auto-off was deactivated during the whole trip and I noticed the same condition in all three of the driving modes.

The ONLY thing that alleviated this was when I put the transmission into manual mode and used paddle shifters to shift. There was zero lag and the car behaved perfectly in that condition.

Are others experiencing the same thing? It’s gotten to the point where I really no longer trust the vehicle to respond as it should. I end up looking like I’m hesitating at four way stops and left turns after slowing down. This causes the other vehicles to take advantage of my “hesitation” and go through intersections because they think I’m still stopped or coming to a rolling stop. Ugh.

This is the exact same issue that I had in my M35i. Every time I would come to a stop light or turning to the left that is when the car lagged terribly. You legit explained exactly how I had my problems.

You mentioned that after your trip to the dealer in July the problem seemed to be fixed. Is it still gone or has it come back?
