Rein Coolant Expansion Tank

About 6 months ago my factory coolant expansion tank cracked and spewed coolant all over the left side of my engine bay. I replaced it with the Rein tank from FCP Euro and had no issues till last week. Before leaving on a 3 hour trip Wednesday I added a little coolant to get just below the max (still within the tolerance). After about 50 miles, the Rein tank cracked and left me stranded. I ordered another to replace it this week and upon receiving, I noticed the Min/Max inside the tank can flex up and down. Has anyone else noticed this? I’m curious if I overfilled the tank as I was just below max, especially if the Min/Max indicator lifted up and read lower than actual.

Can’t comment specifically on the Rein tank, but why were you topping off your coolant? Was there a leak, and do you happen to recall how much coolant you added?

I topped it off because I was traveling 3 hours away, just didn’t want to run on minimum coolant. No leaks that I can see. I added no more than a cup or two of coolant. I have it premixed in a gallon jug, didn’t pour enough to really even notice a difference in the gallon jug.

If you got it from FCP Euro, they should replace it for free. Lifetime warranty on all the sell.

Did you replace your cap when you replaced the tank? A bad cap can over pressurize the system. OE caps are under $20.

The min max is a floating stick. It will clank around when empty.

I did replace the cap but with a new Rein cap. It’s difficult to tell if the crack originated at the seam of the tank or the cap itself.
