Upgrade to e92 335i?

So, thinking of upgrading from my e92 320i. Not sure what engine to move up to. Haven't driven any of the others but thinking of going the whole hog and getting 335i.

should i go 335i or 335d? not sure - should of course get a test drive - hope i won't be hit too hard - only have the 320i 10 months!!

So impressed with my 320d that I am also wanting a new, more powerful upgrade and I have only had mine for 6 months! If you are not bothered about MPG 335i would get my vote but then the 335d (especially modded) goes like the clappers.

Others I am sure will give you more advice.

+1 if i didnt worry about what my parents thought i would change mine a lot sooner too

you wont be dissapointed by either 335 ... i would go for the 335D and have it mapped, amazing real world performance car ! I look forward to each and every drive in mine, even in traffic its a pleasure. Dont be put off by the auto box on the D, i nearly was, but its a beauty !!! you can allways use the paddles if you want and the big plus is there is nothing fun about constantly clutching and changing up and down in congested city traffic, its a lot more relaxed and then rapid and urgent on the open road !

Im sure someone else will put the pros of the 335i to you ... but dont be swayed, the 335D is NOT a compromise over the 335i .... its a beast

Well i guess i am biased - but i drove both d and i and my mind was instantly made up - the sound alone of the 335i over the d is an instant winner - but with the cost of diesel there really isnt a massive cost issue with the i - i get into the early 30's on a run and down to mid 20's if im booting it about. Ive just decided to sell my 335i (its on Pistonheads) as im going back to an E46 M3 CSL - if anyones interested send me a PM.

I only kept my E90 320i for less than 3 months before getting the E92 330d. Not paying much more than £50 quid a month extra either as the 330d has great residuals.

Go for it I say!!

im biased too

your getting rid of your car allready ... youve just spent loads on it, the body kit, the exhausts, the lowering springs etc and not to mention hours on fitting blackout tape ...

why the change so soon then ?

I mentioned in my Nurburgring post that i watched a few CSL's humping around the Ring and it bought a lot of old memories back - i love the 335i and it ticks all the boxes but i miss the rawness and edginess of the CSL - and the sound, oh the sound!! Im not in any rush to get out of the 335 - but if i get a call and its an easy sell then i will let her go - but if all i get is silly offers and timewasters then i will keep her and go the whole hog and get the LSD fitted and tune the engine etc - i may even get her wrapped in white if i keep her. We shall see!!!

335d with a Re-Map, all the way...

The 335d seem to hold there money alot more, than the 335i... As everyone now hates Petrol Prices etc....

Which dealer do you deal with in NI... I tried them all and The Country Garage was the cheapest by LOTS!!!!!

Oh and my 335d is here if you want to call down some night, and see what a Re-Mapped one goes like.....

I'd say go for a 335i Manual but the 335d is very good If you like Auto I don't suppose it matters so much!!

I don't like Autos so your asking the wrong person

They have a "kick down" you stamp your foot to the floor and away they go, just like dropping down a gear. Sure those who kno more about Autos will tell you!

335i (with SSTT) all the way! It is an amazing package offering a wonderful soundtrack and rapid acceleration.

Most people I chatted to the day after my recent work conference commented upon how my car sounded like "a supercar" as I made my getaway and noted how my boss' 335d sounded like a "muted tractor"!
Obviously sound isn't everything but it sure does add to the sports car experience. Having tried both 335's and owned a very fast diesel I feel the whole 'real world' argument means diddly squat; the 335i is an immense performer and feels more sports car than fast commuter!

it doesnt need a 'stamp' ... i find the best way to accelerate hard for an overtake for example is to push the pedal down fully until it reaches the kickdown resistance, otherwise with the kickdown there is a delay as power builds. This makes for a much smoother powerful overtake.
