Car shut off while driving?
I was in my 07 328i e92 and it just shut off going about 40mph. Gauges went down to zero, AC cut off, and no power steering, check engine light on. I coasted it in to the next drive way and it cranked right up no problem, and drive it home no problem. Any opinions on why it did this??

I would use something like INPA that can read Fault Codes AND Freeze Frame Data or Fault Details, and carefully analyze anything saved in Fault Memory of ANY module, starting with the DME and EKP (Fuel Pump Module). Look for any Low Voltage Fault or Freeze Frame reading, noting which "Terminal" was low voltage (30G, 15, etc.), and save or take photo of any such screens and post here. Fault Codes and Freeze Frame Data/ Details are the "Surveillance Camera playback" that helps identify the "perpetrator." Need the evidence. If the A/C cutoff, also check IHKA & JBBF Modules for Codes & Details. It likely was an electrical hiccup of some type, such as a relay, or even a loose/ corroded/ rusted connection at one of the two "Transfer Points" where B+ Cables from the battery pass through the sheet metal forward of the battery. Also check that your battery terminals are snug & clean. George |

I had similar fault (2007 E93 325i ), recovery pointed me at a bad B+ connection behind the fusebox. I think BMW (UK) have a recall in place to remove the failing terminal and fit new.

I found it also happened a couple of time when the car was parked up, when I returned the central locking did nothing - I had to open the car using the key.
DIY "get-you-home" fix if it happens again (UK / RHD ) : remove the lower dash trim below the glovebox using small torx driver, you can then access the wiring harness on the bulkhead leading up the the fusebox. Feel around for the large B+ power cable, gently move it around until you get power (easy to tell when it's done as the courtesy lights will turn up)
